Gotta be honest, after looking at that list, I had no clue Paris had that many tall buildings. I thought just from seeing pictures that most of the city was in that 100ft range.

Yeah there are "some" tall buildings in Paris, but most of those tall buildings are in a cluster in the outer reaches of the 13th Arrondissement [[district) or 19th or 20th. Almost all of those buildings would be built on what in Detroit would be 7 Mile Rd. or Telegraph.... not exactly in the historic center.

So Paris does retain its' historic charm... and those buildings although technically in Paris... are on the periphery, some could be partly hidden behind some of the hills of Paris. Also, you will notice that none of the buildings are later than the 1970s. After the 688 ft tall Tour Montparnasse was built... Paris did some soul searching and by the end of the 1970s no tall buildings were allowed to be built in the city proper. The dominant Tour Montaprnasse is looked on by Parisians with disdain today.

But contrary to Bham1982's "facts"... Paris has NOT been "Manhattanized" as have London and Franfurt.

LOL Thanks Gistok. I didn't have time to write all that, but Tour Montparnesse is this weird exception. But yeah most of those "highrises" are apartment complexes towards the outer ring and the real beginning to the infamous banlieues.

BTW, I have long maintained that a hotel at the corner of Woodward/Henry would be a huge success. Didn't realize that it would be catering to athletes but why not? Higher end than I thought...

And an overpass for the Fisher and maybe sports medicine.

Kind of like something for everyone...

Please stop. All of this is still up in the air and there are no renderings or anchored down tenants yet. How many times do people need to educate you on the Illitchs and the fact that their words are hollow until shovels hit the ground.

Since the 'burden of proof' set by Southen is pretty high, I offer this article from Crain's about demolishing a building for the new Ilitch School of Business.

The article indicates that construction should begin this summer.

Anyone know if the building [[33 Temple) has been demolished?

Cap as much of 75 as possible through downtown. Retail along Woodward would be a nice start. Glad to hear it raised again as a possibility.

In all due regard, the Freep article does quote Conrad Mallett so it isn't simply Olympia folks talking of what they and others may do.

So part of the article is really a DMC article, what THEY MAY do.

"DMC Chief Administrative Officer Conrad Mallett said the DMC is in serious talks for developing this site with the Ilitch family's Olympia Development, the arena district's developer, but he stressed that no deals have been signed. However, if such a center were built, it would likely become a sports medicine destination, he said."

As posted, demolition has or will begin at 33 Temple for the Ilitch School of Business.

So we have the outlines of what could be in the block between Temple and Sproat from Woodward and say Park, a university building and a medical professional building.

I will believe it when I see it for the businesses over I-75. What they are proposing looks very similar to what Columbus, OH did on High Street just north of their downtown.

The biggest reason for my skepticism is that building new bridges over freeways is very expensive. I could see Illitch trying to get MDOT to pay for them, and then it never happening because the state won't fund the new bridges.

As far as capping all of I-75 with a park or something, I like the idea. But to do so, you would probably have to remove the on-ramp to NB I-75 from Clifford [[which I also wouldn't mind seeing). Removing this on ramp will likely be a challenge though once the new arena opens, as this will be the ramp all of the Oakland County suburbanites are going to use to get on I-75 after the hockey game.

I'm still irked about the LED roof going away, but I think we are FINALLY seeing this family follow through on commitments. There are a lot of irons in the fire, so that does provide me with some skepticism as to when these things will actually happen/buildings are up. But I think at the end of this endeavor, we are all going to be fairly surprised and pretty pleased with what comes out of it.

I think my worries lie with the land behind the Fox, including the UA theater, Life Building, and that sea of parking. There really hasn't been any mention of that area in terms of actual development, just a vague outline of what they want there. That to me is the huge question mark. If you can fill in that area of downtown and connect Woodward to the MGM/DTE Energy area, that is going to massively improve the walkability and aesthetics of downtown and will continue to push development across 75 toward MotorCity Casino.

ground breaking for the WSU school of business is next wednesday july 20th. WSU sent out an email yesterday about the ceremony

The former factory building at 33 Temple is already gone. Here's an aerial shot from Tremco Roofing's twitter account, the company working on restoring the Ford Field roof.

Thanks for posting the graphic. When I did some of my posting I hadn't seen the graphic. The graphic is very informative.

I agree that a very nice hotel would be great at Woodward/Henry corner.

Another thing I like is that the graphic shows a POSSIBLE DMC facility at the N.W. corner of Temple/Woodward.

This would be the southern half of Woodward between Temple and Charlotte. I assume the stores on the northern half of Woodward toward Charlotte will easily redevelop. CVS????

It will be fascinating to see the west side of Woodward from the Fisher to say Charlotte by 2020. A couple years ago "not much to see" along those blocks.

It would have been disappointing if the arena development came to a sudden stop at Sproat or even Temple.

I really hope they end up putting residential behind the Eddystone like shown in the graphic. Otherwise it will just be that building surrounding by parking garages, which doesn't quite lend itself to a "neighborhood" feel that they keep touting.

That would be GREAT!!!!

One of the points I have been trying to make is that redevelopment/revitalization is pushing north of Sproat toward and beyond Temple.

We can see the development happening from Woodward/Temple pushing west toward Park and hopefully beyond...

Is the new Woodward bridge capable of withstanding that weight or would you have to build a whole new bridge? Seems a bit bass-ackwards seeing how that bridge was just finished within the last year.

Maybe I am reading the article wrong, which I have been known to do from time-to-time!
