Bham and MAcc and many others have swallowed the blockbusting tactics hook, line and sinker. While not on a par with W. Bloomfield or some of Bham, Southfield schools are doing fine, the principal objection being that white people do not want their kids to be in the minority so they fake that the schools are trash.

Real estate values fell like everyone else's in the bust, but are returning, and you can still buy a very nice property for a reasonable price, unlike the more highly regarded suburbs. We have excellent services including prompt police response and good results.

Note: Southfield residents are as educated and clean as any other people.

Keep on blockbusting, your town will no doubt fall to the same fate as soon as the schools pass 40%. It will happen. Where will you go then?

Obviously it's no slum; it's still rather middle class in outlook, and not really a bad place to live, but nor is it really a desirable place to live [[and this is true for African Americans too; note the skyrocketing black population in Farmington Hills, West Bloomfield, Novi, Walled Lake, etc.).
There you go again. Southfield is doing fine. Other than high ass property taxes, the crime isn't bad, and the schools aren't either. You say it isn't racist to point it out, but you said the same thing about Harper Woods in a thread earlier this year. You pointed out that HW started going down, when more eastside Detroiters started moving in, which is a gross misconception. HW was declining before they started to move in just like Warren, Hazel Park and other borderline Macomb County communities. The schools all of a sudden go down hill, when blacks move in huh?.... You try to carry yourself as some type of demographics expert and try to say you aren't racist, but clearly your posts deem otherwise. Your schtick is getting old.

High School | Average ACT | % College Ready

    Southfield | 16 | 1.8
    Lathrup | 16.3 | 0.8
    Harper Woods | 16 | 1

    Cass Tech | 19.3 | 6.6

    Troy | 25 | 47
    Birmingham Seaholm | 25 | 50
    Rochester Adams | 24.8 | 48

More or less, the average student in the first three is graduating high school at about a 9th grade level. The average from the bottom three is graduating at a true 12th grade level. I could pull up MEAP and MME scores too, if you all wish. This isn't about race, this is about strong schools vs. embarrassing schools. This is about a sub 100 crime index vs. 300 [[or 400 or 500) crime index. This is about feeling safe walking around you neighborhood, about who your children befriend at school, and the likelihood of your home retaining its value.

Is that so? Let's see what an objective source reports on Southfield schools-

Here is the official MI State Report Card for the Southfield High schools-

    Southfield High- 6th percentile statewide
    Southfield Lathrup- 6th percentile statewide

Translation- Southfield schools are in the bottom 6th percentile of schools statewide, meaning they're essentially awful. Outside of Detroit, you could hardly do worse. 94% of Michigan schools are better than those in Southfield.

Ah, so you're claiming the district faked the test scores that gave Southfield the bottom-of-barrel ranking, because the district wants to look like trash, in some elaborate racial conspiracy? Why would Southfield schools fake their own test scores to make their district look worse?

No, Southfield real estate values dropped like a rock during the bust, unlike most communities, and have not recovered, unlike most communities. In most Oakland county communities home prices have never been higher.

I would hope so. Southfield has sky high property taxes, some of the highest in the entire state. Services are still probably worse than every neighboring community excluding Oak Park and Detroit.

Is that so? Many schools in Novi, Farmington Hills and West Bloomfield are more than 50% minority, some are even majority black, yet they generally have excellent school performance. And property values in these areas have generally never been higher, despite massive increases in black population in recent years.

Why are heavily black schools in these other districts succeeding while Southfield is failing? Maybe there are other factors at play besides your racial conspiracy allegations?

So that's what happen when low-income and welfare pacifying black folks came to Southfield? More high rises are closing up, fewer businesses have move out and one got torn down. Northland Mall is hitting the hard times, too. It will be next in the demolition list by 2035.

It's funny how this thread got derailed from commenting on the North Park demolition to this. How did that happen?
