I would have thought that too but just for kicks I went over to Non-Detroit Issues and searched MizMotown's FBI Crime Statistics Michigan Cities 2013. I found three Michigan cities with zero reported crimes: Edmore [[pop. 1,195), Kinde [[pop. 438) and Michiana [[pop. 182). Trivia, yes, but kind of surprising to me that there actually are such low-crime places.

    Thanks, MizMotown!

    - white cultural chauvinism
    - intrusive busybody
    - post is complete gibberish
    - post IS thoroughly offensive....
    - You are an amazing asshole
    - A nonstop barrage of chest-beating suburban ex-Detroit triumphalism
    - Holy cow this thread is something else
    - those who are calling it are seeing it mistakenly
    - quite a bit of condescension towards people in the city
    - this thread unusually misguided

Now the word Ghetto - is okay - depending on who posted it ?
    Double Standard, Forked Tongues, Etc.
Actually, Ghetto is one of the most misused terms around. A Ghetto is an neighborhood or area that is made up entirely or predominantly of a group of people that can be ethnically or religiously grouped together. In fact the first use of Ghetto was to describe Jewish neighborhoods in European cities. It had nothing to do with socioeconomic status as a ghetto could house poor peddlers living within close proximity to wealthy professionals of the same ethnic or religious background.

Slum is the term for concentrated areas of crime, low socioeconomic status, and disrepair.

These terms are NOT supposed to be interchangeable. So Ghettos can also be Slums or have part of the Ghetto be a Slum. However, there have also been Ghettos that weren't Slums and Slums that exist outside of Ghettos.

Over time, the term Ghetto was misused as a synonym for a Slum.

For the millionth time, we know that no place is crime-free. That isn't at issue. Yes, Copenhagen and Detroit both have crime; thanks for the notice.

Well, that clearly wasn't the OPs admission in the first post on this disaster of a thread....

    Grosse Pointe Going Ghetto?

What is with the recent rash of home invasions in the Pointes? I am sad to hear the news where these are becoming daily occurrences in what is [[or was) one of the finest areas in SE Mich. Are the Pointes going ghetto like the bordering Detroit and Harper Woods areas have become?
50 years ago, the police blotter read much the same.

    MikeM,
This kind of crime was not happening in those days:

    http://www.mlive.com/news/detroit/in...t_calls_d.html

How many children do you have? I doubt the mother of these young girls would agree with you on your comments.

Maybe the Bob Bashara case represents that the Pointes are becoming a sex crazed Sodom and Gomorrah?

Sure DetroitBoy, it wasn't happening anywhere back then. I mean, at least I've never heard of violent crimes happening to children in the "good ole days." I do remember my friend being robbed at gunpoint over thirty years ago. GP cops caught them after a high speed chase and crash. And a couple of family members being mugged on the street forty years ago. And my neighbor waking to a burglar in her bedroom in the early seventies. But go ahead and deny it if that helps.

Ran into a classmate this afternoon who reminded me of a school mate who, back in the late seventies, killed an elderly woman in the Farms, then raped her or sodomized her or whatever you do to a dead body. Then shortly thereafter, another fellow student was shot and killed after busting into a home in the Woods in the middle of the night, although rumors of a failed homosexual relationship circulated, so maybe that wasn't a crime.

This is thread has gone the way I thought it would. What exactly is the point of posting about the fact that GP has crime too? The admin even chimes in - without moving this to "non detroit" where it belongs. Smh
I understand what his point was and the gist of a lot of posts seems to lean towards it is Detroit city proper thugs expanding out.Forget about this is happening increasingly across the country, but would it not seem feasible to have a joint task force combined of an officer from every city?

As it is one could home invade in every city and most likely would not get caught because every place seems to be an island on it self trying to build higher walls.Crime is a regional escalating problem to where maybe it should be attacked regionally.

If there is a question about what the latest crime stats for Detroit and GP activity has brought, check out the 350+ homes for sale in the Pointes. Sad that so many beautiful homes are being price reduced just to get them sold. I remember the days when GP was so desirable that prices were bid UP over asking price. When you see the map of what's on the block these days, it really tells the story:

Sure does. They are selling, in many cases, before the sign goes up. Not sure wtf the point of this thread is.

Light up the prices on the other side of Mack for comparison.

We already know the other side of Mack is fire sale pricing. Why do you think there are so many homes for sale on the GP side? Are you living in denial or just stupid?

Stupid for participating in this train wreck thread. Smart, I guess, for buying in GP. Are you helping your neighbors in Detroit or just jealous of GP? Don't answer. I know the answer.

Apparently you know everything. BTW my family was smart enough to sell in GP before the crash so we aren't stuck there like you with half the neighborhood for sale.

Funny stuff. I lived in GPP and found it like most communities. Peopled by mostly charming citizens. I guess according to you, adjacency to Detroit makes it undesirable now.

What a fun moniker "Detroit Boy" not even close. Our eldest bought in GPP and sold for double to move to Midtown. Seems prices are holding. Just where do you live now? Must be butt fuck nowhere so you can pro pone from afar about real people, living real lives and dealing with real issues.

    1. Detroit tolerates crime more than the GP's..... snitches get stiches...
    2. The League Shop and Starbucks in the Village/Hill are installing bulletproof glass and those little turnstiles that you put your money in and spin around, true sign of ghetto.
    3. Look at the real estate listings along Lake Shore and other prominent GP streets, the rich have seen the writing on the wall and are getting out while they can.
    4. The Wealth Management businesses in GP have converted to check cashing and payday loan centers.

    Ghetto.

what a coincidence, you just happened to run into this person while this thread was going on. I knew a guy who knew a guy...

I ran into a bunch of neighbors as I parked my car; they were walking with kids and dogs. None of them had anything bad happen yesterday.

Pictures or it's bullshit. I was there yesterday and saw none of this. I'll stop in this afternoon and take a look. Which "suburb" are you in?
