The Northend is filled with large homes. Large homes are expensive to maintain. If a homeowner doesn't have the means to maintain them, then they are not maintained. Ms. Byrd's situation exemplifies that. The Northend's desirability may be its location. However, new, smaller housing will be what saves it, not saving all of the homes there because they're just too big. The people that originally built these homes were captain's of industry [[Boston-Edison, Arden Park especially). Those people don't live there anymore. Also, more retail is needed around the Boston-Edison area.
