I'm still trying to figure out what right a practically nonexistent Indian tribe has the right to do whatever it wants.

The saddest thing is stepping into a casino. All you see is the bottom of society looking hypnotized at the slot machines and just cranking that arm and feed money in. I'm glad the casinos are going down the drain. They ruin society.

What's worse than the crowd at a casino? Try a NYC Off Track Betting parlor. Chain-smoking, near broke mostly older men cheering on a losing horse... Terribly pathetic. Although I don't gamble much at all, there are some people who recreationally and responsibly gamble.

Many times I've seen people at the crap or blackjack tables having a great time. I wouldn't exactly call everyone who steps into a casino the bottom of society either......

Default A quick rundown on the SCOTUS case and more

The court case with the small tribe opening a casino in Vanderbilt is State of Michigan v.Bay Mills Indian Community, http://www.scotusblog.com/case-files...ian-community/

The history: Bay Mills [[my tribe) received a settlement in a land claim. There was a stipulation in the agreement that the money could be used to increase tribal land holdings. This was done by purchasing the property in Vanderbilt on which the small casino was built.

There was some intertribal wrangling about this as other tribes feared the competition with their casinos, and between them and the state, a case was made to enjoin Bay Mills to close the casino. Though this was done, Bay Mills didn't go down without a fight. The result is the above ruling, which held, very reluctantly, that the state of Michigan could not sue the tribe. The majority ruling handed down a whole bunch of lifelines to the state to use against the tribe, including sue the individuals. The ruling did not address the land claim issue, so as far as I can see, the land is still in limbo as tribal land.

This is why the Sault Band is working with BIA to put their land in trust, to avoid that limbo status. Or they may not have had the same land claim issue that Bay Mills has re: Using land claim reimbursement to buy the land making it tribal land without having to put it in trust.

The intertribal wrangling continues as at least one tribe is joining in the fray over the Lansing casino.

The Greektown casino land was put in trust and as far as I know is technically Indian land unless it was revoked or given up in the transfer.

Case law has gone quite a ways in the last 8 years. In 2006 the Keewahdins opened up a new casino hotel on land they purchased near the casino it was to replace. It took them about a year to be able to move gaming into it. http://www.stignacenews.com/news/200..._page/001.html

Chances are the property where the casino may reside is on the old Pinnicale Park racetrack. http://longshotsblues.wordpress.com/...from-pinnacle/

I don't think this is the Pinnacle property, that is North of Sibley, I believe this is on the South side.

So will Michigan approve a Raceino at Pinnacle Park?

Why else would the tribe want to buy land there? It is in the middle of nowhere! Does not seem like a good investment considering all of the airport landside development [[trucking, hotels, warehouses) seems to happen N and E of Metro.

The site mentioned earlier in the thread would have access issues being that it is landlocked by a freeway and a railroad. This site will also need some wetland mitigation, meaning a lot of it will be taken up with retention basins to hold rain water running off of the pavement. Not exactly good for moving people in and out. Does anyone have any documentation that he Kewadhin's own that parcel too?
