Lake Huron has its own watershed. The Detroit River is part of the Lake Erie watershed. As such, it has different tributaries flowing into it and it's drawing groundwater and surface flows from a completely different geographical area.
So what is the Detroit River getting that Lake Huron isn't? Basically all of the pollution from the heavy industry located in Metro Detroit and the agricultural pollution from Southern Ontario. Ask yourself why Lake Erie has a very serious algal bloom problem but Lake Huron does not.
No way I'm not eating some three eyed fish from the Detroit River. We already pollute it with pet coke, mercury, PCP and raw sewage.
