The City caused the deplorable condition of the plant though their illegal seizure of the property in 1999. They commanded officers from the gang squads [[because that situation was all fixed by then, right?) to guard the plant 24/7/365 for two years for one purpose only, to deny the owners due process, and to keep Dom C. out if he ever left the property. After they could no longer justify the gang squad officers on the property they paid some $8.65/hr. security guard to "watch" the place, and all hell broke loose and we see the results of these actions in what the plant is today. Dom his a head case, he more worng than right in a lot of matters, but he was wronged in one very large, elemental way. Go see this film on March 20th

Wasn't it Dennis Archer who exercised "Eminent Domain" and seized the Packard Plant because one of the casinos was supposed to go in there? If I recall correctly, and I haven't been batting a 1000 lately, the Packard Plant had been a viable business as classic car storage facility. The same thing had happened to "Rivertown". The casinos backed out of both of those locations, and we're left the mess you see today. Anyway, I do plan on attending the Freep Film Fest.

sad life. Guys like the shady hermit crab of an underwater junkyard looking to squeeze anyone who messes with the dirty little fiefdom he probably doesn't even own. Its like hes got his old rotting hulk. He doesn't have the $$$ to fix it. Hes trying to figure out any way possible to twist a nickle out of the place and its just not working out.

what ever happened with that banksey mural thing anyway?

Dennis Archer's administration was all over the "Eminent Domain" , ostensibly for a facility that the Budd co. was going to build. The active party pushing the deal was a Detroit industrial real estate speculator whose son happened to own a demolition contractor. They had friends in Lansing who were in charge of doling out EPA superfund monies for brown field reclamation. Go see the documentary, a lot of people are going to be educated very soon.

so, what, another 10 years of lawsuits while the property stays derelict?

Hopefully a judge will laugh the case out of the courtroom and tell Dom to go away. The property needs to either begin its climb back or be demolished.
