    Thanks SpartanDawg! That last image appears to be about 1927. The Buhl Building is already standing, but the Guardian and Penobscot are not.

    Here's a partial scan of a map of downtown ground floor businesses in the GCP area from, I believe, the 1950's. [[I expect that Gistok can pin down not only the correct year; but also the exact month. ) The map is framed so this scan is the best I can do with my limited skills. The more it's enlarged, the fuzzier it seems to get. Sorry.

    Since we can't read the text, the best I can guess is the 1940s.... based on 2 items....

    1) the Oriental/Downtown RKO Theatre is still extant on W. Adams [[closed 1951, razed 1953).
    2) The western end of the Michigan Theatre/Building block has been cleared [[razed late 1930s).
