This could be a great opportunity for Detroit to get together with Windsor again like it did with the Grand Prix, Superbowl and upcoming Children's Games.

Maybe I'm missing something. But from what I've seen, it looks like Charlotte wants it out at their NASCAR track & Austin wants it at their F1 track. Neither of these are close to the centers of the cities. I don't see how they can promote their locations as cool urban destinations when that's not where the games will be. Sure, people will probably go to or stay in the city centers, but from what I've heard Detroit wants events in the core...at venues downtown. Now Chicago could definitely offer up some great urban locations...but it doesn't seem like they're trying...so I have no clue where they want the games.

I think it would be much cooler to actually be in a city...but I could easily see ESPN liking a venue where it is easier to regulate crowds, etc.

I kinda have mixed feelings about the whole process. I really want the games here...mainly for civic pride and regional benefit. Securing a national 3-4 day event for 3 years is something that will help. However, despite the potential benefits, I do hate that ESPN is making such a huge production out of a mediocre event. Because that's what it is...mediocre. Especially now that there's different X Games around the world...so it's not as special as it was a decade ago.
