they have a facebook page and i'm sure can scrounge up free discs for the kids to have and play with. or contact discraft, a local [[wixom) manf of frisbee golf discs, can sponsor the kids as well.
disc golf is a fun activity for all ages. give it a shot.

ask friends of the rouge river what volunteers they need. they always need volunteers to count frogs, pull invasive weeds, clean ditches and clean rivers of trash. or paint 'no dumping' on sewer grates. some of its easy stuff, some is more difficult.

i wonder if theres some kind of one laptop per child type non profit who are looking for children to give laptops to?

you could ask firefighters if there is a fire safety instructional session.
or DTE Energy if there is an electrical safety seminar type thing for kids.
i seem to remember both of them having activities for kids as well. sometimes firefighters would drain a pump truck and make a big mud pile for kids to play in.

belle isle is a great place to fly kites. if you can get your hands on those. kids love kites.

in school we had a competition to build a chair out of cardboard. then we had to sit in them. they had to support our teams individual weights.

also build a balloon propelled vehicle out of random objects. like a baloon and a cd , and then blow up the baloon and it would hover across the floor. see whos design made it the furthest.

    both were tons of fun.

hey, you could always do a makeshift spelling bee!
