Thank you for your suggestions regarding the location of our picnic. I appreciate the input, but having checked out a few of the sites, I found that there are reasons that many of them do not work for us, at least not this year without sufficient advance notice.

Plus I still love our tradition of the DYes Picnic on Belle Isle!!!

Given that we cannot compete with the Grand Prix preparations on the island, and the big Orion Music Festival a week following the race, I propose that we move the picnic date to Sunday, June 23, which also bypasses Father's Day.

At our usual site...at the corner of Muse Rd. and Loiter Way...just east of the Casino and just north of the Flynn Skating Pavilion...with a view of the river and the downtown skyline!!

Also...this date may allow some folks who have long been unable to attend due to Memorial Day family commitments to join us!!

    What say you?

We actually ended up having our picnic there last year on Grand Prix Sunday. It is a nice park, but most of it had been reserved in advance, so we ended up in a corner near the street. For Memorial Day weekend, I'm sure reservations are needed as well.

Come one, come all!! It's Official!!!

The 2013 DetroitYES Picnic is on Sunday, June 23 at 12 noon on Belle Isle.

Bring a dish to pass, your main course to grill [[or not), and chairs for you and your group.

Let us know you are coming, how many in your party, and what dish you are bringing [[so we don't have all desserts or all pasta salads).

Dave and I will have the paper- and plasticware, buns, condiments, and starter munchies and beverages. Plus a grill, canopy, tables, coolers, etc.

    See you there!!

Grandson? Wow, I bet you are a great Grandpa.

    love that.

    ...
Hey Danny, use the Personal Message feature and let me know what church you be attending that day. I will pick you up. Unless you are too embarrassed to be seen in my old car. ... I bet that's the reason.

You are racist against my Teutonic ride. Or ageist, because it is so old. I can't decide right now, but it amounts to the same thing.

We have had a commitment for every Memorial Day weekend, for years. The new date works for us!
Kathleen, I know you and Dave, from music events. It will be interesting to see if we have met other forum members.
    Chalk Bob and Colleen in.
Will check in a week before, for suggestions on what, or what not, to bring!

Unfortunately no date will work for everyone who wants to attend.

It will be good to meet some folks who have long wanted to attend the picnic, but couldn't make it on Memorial Day weekend.

Gannon will have to post and let us know how he fared running the Marathon [[on Saturday, I think).

The date is on my calendar. I'll bring my spinach cheese pie and a greek salad. Maybe even a few neighbors. We live minutes from Belle Isle and just want to plug in that Islandview Village is a great place to live.

Nothing's wrong with your ride. I will be visiting a Church way out crosstown Then I arrive at the Belle Isle for the D-YES Picnic. You can take me home after the picnic. I'm not racist. I'm usually out the streets of the Detroit taking care of business not giving in to fear of the those yahoos. I will be there after 1:00pm.
