What solved the Boston terrorist acts was lots of cameras and lots of people TALKING. Social networking sites were blowing up with photos and people telling their accounts and reporting things that looked suspicious.

The FBI is obviously adept at investigating but the public made the biggest contributions of photos and security footage.

That said, the public in places like Detroit and many other cities remain mum when they suspect or a hear a family member or friend has committed a crime

Some of those security systems are maintained by private companies. If they are working, the company is holding up their end of the contract. The lights are someone else's problem to address.

The social media speculators were completely wrong. The only thing that social media helped was to provide photos to the professional investigators. The other thing that helped was the victim who actually saw the suspect place the bomb on the ground and was able to identify him to investigators.

Some bloggers from another site had said that they heard a couple of loud explosions coming from the eastside of Detroit last night. I was away. Had anyone on this site heard anything?

Yeah .... that's what I said. The FBI is more "adept at investigating" while social media provided pieces of evidence.

A lot of that was voluntary. Nothing is open, there is a maniac running around, why would you want to go out anyway? During the 1967 insurrection, there was a curfew at dark. You could go out at your risk, and a cop might catch you and send you home with a warning. Anyone remember during the aftermath of 9-11-2001? It was very quiet out there. No official lockdown, maybe, but no one was out. Same with the big power blackout of 2003. You couldn't get anywhere because you couldn't get gas, and nothing was open anyway, so no one was out.
