It not disgusting to the Romans. The Romans used urine for everything from cure-all ointment to washing their clothes. Human urine contains ammonia, a cleaning agent to take off tough grease, dirt, blood and other impurities. The Romans don't know about the microscopic atoms or the element ammonia, but their ancestors found out the using human urine does take out most impurities.
