    Here is a very helpful aerial shot of that part of downtown before the demolition of all of those buildings. This was posted by Mikeg on a 2008 thread that had many of his 1960s Kodachrome shots of Crowley's and other downtown buildings. I've added a couple of labels to better answer your questions.

    A = Kern's, B = the old Opera House [[by then occupied by Sam's Cut Rate), C = the 2 Crowley's buildings, D = Hudson's, E = Downtown Library [[Skillman Branch), F = Odd Fellow's Hall [[recently opened Buffalo Wild Wings), G = National Theater, H = B. Siegel's, I = Monroe Block, J = Cadillac Square Building, K = Cadillac Tower [[building that had Barry Sanders on it).

    All but E, F, G & K are gone.

    Nice job, Al. I always enjoy your perspectives on Detroit history back in the day.

    I worked downtown when Crowley's was demolished. I was able to get a hollow tile red brick from the site.
