The original website http://detroitscrip.org is gone. Any of these still floating around? Any of the original businesses still accepting them?

The currency was 'founded' by the owners of a few local bars, all of which were somewhat invested in the rebuilding of some cool, old properties into joints many of us frequent today. I was around one of the un-named instigators of this at the time, who also owned a pretty famous downtown deli that he killed.

It was quaint, but only those local tradespeople who frequented their establishments seemed to keep 'em all in circulation...most EVERYBODY else would buy a few notes and then keep them as souvenirs. Not exactly the way to populate a new currency circulation.

This is the first time hearing about them in over three or maybe even four years. Unfortunately, through that whole time, I was too broke to even buy a souvenir myself.

But it was a fun experiment. I never heard from any of the founders if they ever got a visit from the Secret Service or any federal agency like that.

It looks like the wayback machine says it has 38 captures , some archived websites you can't go very deep into it , but this one looks like you'll be able to view a handful of archived pages

I used to buy these, or take them as change when they came out. Looked pretty good, can see why people collected them. I unfortunately spent them all, and they just kinda disappeared from circulation over time.

I finally own one of these elusive pieces of Detroit history. The project lasted for just a few months in 2009.

I had an eBay alert for "Detroit community scrip" set for years and no bites. Finally one popped up and I snagged it. I paid $10 for it. I wonder how many more are floating around out there.
