You don't get my point, voting is a right guaranteed by our constitution. A voters registration card should be all the ID you need. Drinking, going to the casino and other things that people over the age of 18 or 21 do are not rights guaranteed by the constitution and they have the right to ask for any type of ID they deem necessary to avoid legal problems. To ask for an state issue ID if its one you had to pay for is a form of poll tax.

You are focusing on the age of majority in both those activities, I am focusing on whether the activity is a right granted by the constitution.

You don't get a voters registration card unless you are legally allowed to vote.

To make sure our guaranteed right of one vote per person [[a most inequitable rule) is upheld it should be compulsory to present photo ID when casting that one vote. This will stop Republicans voting more that once.

Why would the Federal Government sue the State of Florida for cleaning deceased or ineligible voters out of the state voter registry?
If these people are verified dead, or not legally eligible to vote,
    it should be a non-issue,
unless, of course, the Fed is supporting vote corruption out the open now....

there is not now, nor has there been in my lifetime, a real issue with voter fraud. the problem is that Florida is purging legal voters, including disabled veterans, from the voter rolls

Ok, so say you register to vote and say that I'm not. So I could go to your precinct and just say that I'm you, and I could vote Republican [[which I assume you wouldn't do). Now I just voted in your name, and I voted how you wouldn't. If they asked for my ID, they would then find out that I'm not you and I wouldn't have voted in your name. THATS WHY YOU SHOULD NEED ID.

Now, why wouldn't we want dead people on the voter registration? That's just crazy talk.

Very true! I don't want Democrats voting more than once, and I don't want Republicans doing it either. I want people elected in this country based on a proper vote. One vote per person. If you can't be prepared enough to just have an ID card, then you can't vote. I want Romney to win, but not by voter fraud.

Precisely. It's ain't that deep. ID has benefits. Were this not not steeped in partisan politics it would be clear to see that ID will help reduce double voting.

How's about the bank teller no longer ask for you ID at the bank? What's the problem? Any face and signature is as good as the other!

The fact that most people have ID has made voting fraud of this kind minimal. Remove the need and we shall have a problem!

The use of a semi-permanent die on the hand to identify voters in other parts of the world. Shall we start that practice?

If you have a voters registration card why do you need ID. When you go to vote the official will check your name off the master list so there is no double voting.
So why do you need to present ID other than voters registration card ? If someone had your card and voted in your place then you have some other issues that need to be addressed. Again if voting is a right ID that you have to pay for amounts to a poll tax.

In Michigan you are asked if you want to register to vote when you go to the SoS for a new DI or ID. They are not allowed to ask if you are a US citizen. You sign a form saying you are a citizen, but that can't be challenged by Sos workers.

Nice ascot. Don't expect Romney to be wearing any of his so blatantly. They're conspicuously incongruent with denim jeans.

Unless the state offers free state ID, these things are another form of poll tax. The whole thing is wrapped in a huge falsehood that there is wide-spread voter fraud

"... two senators from each state, elected by the people thereof ..."

And how, exactly, should one demonstrate that s/he is one of the people thereof entitled to vote?

People of all colors can get a State ID.
    It's not a racist notion.

Green = States that require photo ID
Blue = States that require non-photo ID
Yellow = States that request photo ID
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voter_ID_laws

So does that mean every single state on that map with a color on it is a racist Republican state? What kind of logic are the Democrats using when trying to allow fraudulent or ineligible votes to be counted? And why would they want that? As soon as they lose, they will be the first ones to scream fraud!

A few years ago, the MI SOS started to require a Social Security Number to be on file for everyone with a state ID or driver's license. If there is not one on file, you need to provide your SSN or proof of residence.

If you are on public assistance, you can get a free State ID card.

I'm actually agreeing with rb. Any charges for a voter ID would seem to be poll taxes. I'm not against voter ID but having to buy something to vote is a de facto tax.

The Supreme Court just ruled that a fee is not a tax. Not saying it's right, but laws are stupid.

In any case, is a $10 ID card really a burden? When I worked at a video store we required a state ID to open an account, and a lot of people had them.

I'm not saying that it's OK to require ID for voting, but the argument that a $10 fee [[or free if you qualify) for an ID card is overly burdensome seems silly.

That was a very narrow ruling in regards to that particular issue.
My argument isn't that $ 10 is a finanancial burden or not but that it shouldn't be required at all in order to vote.

From today's Free Press: GOP-led crusade against voter fraud isn't finding much of it
Republican election officials who promised to root out voter fraud so far are finding little evidence of a widespread problem.

State officials in key presidential battleground states have found only a tiny fraction of the illegal voters they initially suspected existed. Searches in Colorado and Florida have yielded numbers that amount to less than one-tenth of 1% of all registered voters in either state.

Democrats say the searches waste time and, worse, could disenfranchise eligible voters who are swept up in the checks....

Especially telling, critics say, is that the efforts are focused on crucial swing states from Colorado to Florida. And in Colorado, most of those who received letters are either Democrats or unaffiliated with a party. It's a similar story in Florida....

Last year, Colorado Secretary of State Scott Gessler, a Republican elected in 2010, estimated that 11,805 noncitizens were on the rolls.

But the number kept getting smaller.

After his office sent letters to 3,903 registered voters questioning their status, the number of noncitizens now stands at 141, based on checks using a federal immigration database. Of those 141, Gessler said 35 have voted in the past. The 141 are .004% of the state's nearly 3.5 million voters.

Even those numbers could be fewer.

The Denver clerk and recorder's office, which had records on eight of the 35 voters who cast ballots in the past, did its own verification and found that those eight people appear to be citizens....

Florida's search began after the state's Division of Elections said that as many as 180,000 registered voters weren't citizens....

Florida eventually narrowed its list of suspected noncitizens to 2,600 and found that 207 of them weren't citizens,...

Of the 2,600 initially marked as possible noncitizens, about 38% were unaffiliated voters and 40% were Democrats, an analysis by the Miami Herald showed.

The state has more than 11.4 million registered voters, so the 207 amounts to .001% of the voter roll.

[In North Carolina]She said the board did not find evidence of widespread fraud, noting there were only 12 instances in which a noncitizen had voted. North Carolina has 6.4 million voters.

Michigan Secretary of State Ruth Johnson, a Republican, estimated last week that as many as 4,000 noncitizens are on the state's voter roll.

The department said it verified 1,000 registered voters who are noncitizens, based on an analysis of about 20% of complete citizenship data. Johnson extrapolated the 4,000 number from the most recent U.S. Census' five-year American Community Survey, which showed Michigan has a noncitizen population of about 304,000.

That's as far as the investigation has gone. The figures have not been verified.
I don't suppose there are many Republicans that would like to go on record admitting their shame that their party has to exaggerate nonproblems because voters simply don't like them. It's expensive. It's embarrassing. It's childlike.

Hey, can't win on your merits? No problem! Just tilt the playing field!

There needs to be something like a class action lawsuit brought against the GOP by all the legitimate voters who will get disenfranchised by this scam. There needs to be a high price paid for cheating.

Default What's Imaginary And Has The Tea Party Freaking Out?

Ahead of the 2012 elections, a wave of legislation tightening restrictions on voting has suddenly swept across the country. More than 5 million Americans could be affected by the new rules already put in place this year — a number larger than the margin of victory in two of the last three presidential elections. via Brennen Center for Justice.
