I don't have any factual architectural or historic knowledge of the house, just my personal experience. About 20 years ago, after having admired this house for a long time, I knocked on the door one morning and was invited in to see the 1st floor.

The house was owned by an elderly couple who operated a dance studio around the corner on Grand River. (I don't remember their name, but it started with a "T" and was 5 letters long.) They had lived there for many years. What I saw of the interior was as finely crafted as the exterior. I remember, particularly, the fireplace and the fine, old wood floors. The rooms that I saw were decorated in the what we might call today "shabby chic." While aged, it was well kept and comfortable. It was an altogether delightful visit.

The only incongrous architectural note that I noticed (and remember) was the glassed-in front porch. Perhaps the biggest problem for this house is its isolated location. And the prohibitive expenses involved in restoration and maintenance.

One of the best libraries in the Detroit area! Its a shame the building is not in use. Also if I remember correctly Eurich designed entrance to Woodlawn Cemetery.

In another thread the was a mention of not being able to maintain what we have. An important historic building in need of guidance is the home of George Nettleton. Nettleton was Albert Kahn's partner in the late 19th Century. Located at 2328 Hudson Street and built in 1896. The home looks to be fairly sound. Is there anyone out there that would be interested in preserving this piece of history?

Curious to know what was at the top of this house - also curious as to whether they were involved in 1720 Iroquois. Fantastic side porch on 1111 meets beautiful entry on 1720...

1111 Seminole has a flat roof in the center and at one time there was an iron fence surrounding the perimeter of the flat section. Yes 1720 Iroquois is a MacFarlane, Maul & Lenz design.

Thanks P69 - That makes sense. Have to say that I like 1111 Seminole with the glazing added to the side porch better than the original format with it just open.

To be honest I like the open porch but making the room usable year round is the way to go.

I think it was at one time, also 3985 was for sale for quite some time last year I do not know if the house exchanged hands though.
