This subdivision is very similar to many of subdivisions developed in the late 1920's in Detroit. A handful of model houses were built then the depression and WWII interrupted development. After WWII there was an explosion of houses built to accommodate the post war boom.

Designed and built by Roscoe W. Babcock Inc. 8215 Bramell built in 1929 Rouge Park, Detroit, MI. Includes an advertisement featuring the house from a 1929 edition of the Detroit Free Press.

    Extensive alterations

I recently was given multiple sets of blueprints from a former City of Detroit architect Walter E Moritz Jr. Sorting through the various sets I found the plans for this house rolled up in a set of plans for the 10th Precinct Police Station.

Designed by Walter E Moritz Jr. for John Hardy. 17301 Beaverland built in 1955 Oak Grove Neighborhood, Detroit, MI. Includesa page featuring the east and west elevations for the house from a set of the original plans.

Designed by John L. Popkin. Congregation Beth David Synagogue 2201 Elmhurst built 1927-1928 New Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church/Beth David Synagogue Historic District, Detroit, MI. Includes an image of the building from the Leonard N. Simons Jewish Community Archives, circa 1940's, and An article/photograph from a 1928 edition of the Detroit Free Press.

    Cornerstone placed: August 14, 1927
    Dedicated: August 26, 1928
The congregation would change their name to B'nai David in the 1930's. Something to do with creative finance if I remember the story.
The seating in the balcony as well as the stained glass windows are original to building.
Currently New Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church. This congregation is doing an excellent job maintaining this gem.

I hope you don't mind the comment: it's apparent this structure has been "remuddled", but sometimes you stretch the meaning of "talent", such as here.

Not saying it's not interesting, though.

And I love your thread in general. I look forward to it!

The house is surprisingly unmolested and sits on a terrific lot, butting up to Grand Lawn Cemetery. I would highly recommend seeing this house in person. Also one must take the good, the bad and the ugly when it comes to Detroit's fabulous architecture.

I met the owner of the house while taking the image of the house. After we got past the what are you doing question we had a nice chat.

Designed by Albert Kahn. Temple Beth El 8801 Woodward Avenue built 1921-1922 Detroit, MI.

    Builder: Brayton Engineering Company
The cornerstone was placed October 21, 1921 at 4:30PM.

The building has been neglected for many years and the current congregation has a monumental task ahead of them to rehab this fabulous 65,000 sq. ft. structure.

Great to see the first temple being taken care of. What is the future use for the beautiful synagogue in the latter pictures?

Built by Hilary H. Micou. 575 Lakshore Drive built in 1964 Grosse Pointe Farms, MI.
This house had been hidden for quite sometime by its "luscious" vegetation. Fortunately new construction opened up some of the landscaping.
