[QUOTE=Patrick;336618]Do you know anything about the Charles Helin mansion? It burned ages ago and one of America's largest "butterfly" collections was lost. I guess afterwards, Helin rented or bought the William Fisher home in PW. I think a firefighter died fighting the blaze too...it may have been built originally by a Buhl.

The Helin mansion was originally built for J. Burgess Book. There is no need to go on about the Book Bros. Although they did a considerable amount of work with Louis Kamper the mansion on Windmill Pointe Drive was not designed by him. In fact the architect is lost to history. Included are a couple images of the home. I was there watching the fire but I do not remember any fireman who died. I also included an image of Windmill Pointe Drive just before any homes were built there.

Ok, not Detroit proper, but this is the Pine Knob Mansion designed by HA O'Dell for Colonel Sydney Dunn Waldon in 1927.

Looks like even W. Hawkins Ferry is human. Long attributed to Raymond Carey by Ferry the John M. Dwyer home at 372 Lakeland turns out to be designed by George Hunt Ingraham. Included are images from a 1909 issue of the Western Architect.
