1064 Seminole - Detroit Free Press Jan. 3. 1904 p. 6 "Realty and Building" pictures the house and says that it was part of 3 "Brick Residences for John Cleff, to be built on Seyburn Avenue, Baxter and O'dell Architects." All the houses are still standing, with others constructed in between the three.

Irony! An image sent to me by a friend. Artist Victor Moore built this so-called recycled 'junk' castle for just 500 dollars

    Great - love it!

From the Free Press "News of the Architects" May 7, 1905 which may be describing this house. "C. [[Or possible E as in Edward?) H. Bennett has prepared plans and let the contracts for a residence for F. E. Parker to be erected on the north side of Taylor Avenue, near Woodward Avenue. The first story will be veneered with paving brick, the second story and roof will be covered with stained shingles. The interior of the first story will be finished in oak and mahogany and the second in oak and white enamel. A large porch will be built up with field stone and tile floor. The size of the house is 36 x 42."

Alphonse DePaepe another of the builders in Sherwood Forest and Grosse Pointe. DePaepe was quite prolific in GP, I have found over 70 homes he built in the Pointes.

A Smith, Hinchman & Grylls design. Unfortunately the building has been altered from its original configuration and is now part of the Hanley International School in Hamtramck.

I have to call foul on this last photo of United Savings Bank by Albert Kahn. The photo shows a facade definitely not by Kahn [[unless it's a remodeling by his firm AK Associates, long after the master had passed).

I own a scrapbook with a wonderful copy of a pen and ink rendering of this building's original facade - by Albert Kahn; the renderer is Lancelot Sukert. Unfortunately the scrapbook is too unwieldy to be scanned.

A reality check is always a good thing. The following pages will answer your question. The pages were copied from the final report prepared for the Historic Designation Advisory Board.
