Members of my family lived in this house back in the 1960s. I remember sitting on that porch with my cousins naming cars as they went by. It was quite a nice little house on the inside as I remember. Shame about the shape it's in today.

Any idea why the chimney would have been lengthened? Just curious.

Al, I imagine that neighborhood was quite nice in the 1960s. That porch must have been wonderful on warm summer evenings. I'm sure you have many happy memories from that house during that time. Shalom!

According to all of the sources I've seen, the Sallan Building was bought by Hudson's and torn down in 1946. Then quickly replaced by the final piece of the Hudson's store, completing Hudson's occupation of the entire block bounded by Woodward, E. Grand River, Farmer, and Gratiot.

Fire code and insurance, takes an act of congress to have a fireplace in a house now with EPA regulations.

So much irreplaceable class and style in a lot of those properties, not that I am a perv but they are just sexy.
