Default Great old photo [Michigan Mounted Police Detroit]

I would suppose this dates from 1933, which is what another web site stated that I copied this from. The license plate on the back car fits with 1933 for color scheme. Anyway, before any of you ask, no, I am not in this photograph.

And they are still leasing the car today

I want their boots. So were these State police stationed in Detroit who rode around on horses?

No, those are Detroit Police Officers. I don't know how the "Michigan" became so pronounced. DPD badges; State Police always had the smaller ones [[similar in size to the Captain on the far right).

State police always had the more fancy uniforms with the stripe down the trousers, etc. State police reminds me of Donald Sutherland in "The Dirty Dozen": "Very pretty, Colonel, but can they fight?"

So was there tension or competition between Detroit Police and State Police? Kind of sounds like it.

Does that mean you were the photographer?

No, DPD and MSP had mutual respect, but back then MSP only patrolled cow country and -- in the view of some -- didn't really do much police work other than traffic enforcement.

Gnome, you really know how to hurt a guy!
