LA Rodney King Riot Tour

An interesting article/acticity from CNN this morning got me thinking, what would a Detroit '67 Riot tour have looked like if they held it in '87, and again in '07?

"While manufacturing jobs in Los Angeles have declined from 700,000 to 370,000 since 1992, according to the L.A. County Economic Development Corp., Bryant, said he remains optimistic about future economic growth in areas hardest hit by the rioting.

"Over the 20 years since the 1992 riots, over $1 billion have been invested in our underserved communities in and around south Los Angeles," he said.

In many areas where urban blight and hostility between the Los Angeles Police Department and mostly African-American residents contributed to the urban unrest in 1992, businesses and shopping centers have replaced entire corridors once reduced to ashes."

So my question is, were there any deliberate efforts by the city, county, state, and feds to direct reinvestment and development funds/tax breaks to the areas of Detroit hardest hit by the riots? Seems to me the only press I've seen of the riots was a Freep detailed recap of who was killed and where/how a few years back [[was that for the 40th anniversary?)...

14th Street was redeveloped and for a long time contained a Farmer Jack supermarket along with several other businesses in a strip-style development. Unfortunately 12th Street is now very much off the beaten path for most and has hit decline again.
