1966, so I am told.
1966, so I am told.
Oh, that picture just made me tear up a bit. My cousins used to rent those boats and take us younger kids out fishing and fooling around on the canals back then. I also had a great uncle who lived on Klenk, going back to prohibition times, and I think that may be his house in the background.
That looks to be about right I worked there around 1966 for Tommy on the gas dock and loading/cleaning rentals. If someone else has pictures please post them !
Anything new going on at the site [[Tommy's), new owners, etc. ???
Lowell you wrecked the old forum.
Way to go.
Worked at Tommy's for 8 years or so.
Lived at the house next to it that burned down too.
64-69 I'll come back tonight
I worked there in 66 too.
That will never happen
That project will never happen
You mean the total restoration of the marina that has already started?
Yes. Show me the pictures and where do you live
Are they building the marina or tearing it down for new one?
Tommy bought my first 2 cars.
Nearpar. what is your name. We must of worked their at the same time
Any thing new going on at the site.....are the new marina owners doing anything, sure would like to see it rebuilt like back in the day.....
Drove by this morning - nothing going on that I could see.
Ha....25 years ago, I grew up 1/2 a block away on Chalmers and the park was starting to become neglected back then. It was truly a paradise when I was a kid running around there in the late 60s thru the late 70s.
Who is in.....upon bankruptcy, we are going to buy the park to develop, dredge for deep/wide canals, build nice single family waterfront homes, keep a section in the middle for a nice park for all to enjoy with a gated entrance right after the bridge with private security [[retired PO's)....who is in?
In the Belle Harbor development scheme, I wanted to hate those two half towers, but I actually like them. They let a lot of light in around them for the folks living nearby, and just imagine the views!
That is such an amazing area. I envy you guys that grew up there.
Time for an update.....
For those who live in/near the area or have driven by it lately.....anything going on @ Tommy's????? Would sure like to see it return.....
Mike Raleigh you must have known my Dad Jim Raleigh
I was in town for a wedding this past weekend and went by my old stomping grounds, I thought this would make an interesting contrast of what 25 years of neglect produces...kinda brings a tear to my eye, life after people. Its hard to believe that some one doesn't want to save/develope such prime real estate.
