Thanks Cincinnati Kid; I was able to find a pic of the Pembroke Hojo.

I found an Oct 1967 ad for the Star Bakery located at the New Orleans Mall located at "10 Mi at Greenfield" and another mention from 1964 so I guess these buildings have always been a mall.
Roundabouts are counterintuitive to a lot of people because we are used to giving right of way to the right at a 4-way-stop but in a roundabout you give right of way to the car to your left.
Thanks; I think you're right. I found some previous threads discussing Detroit-area HoJos and there doesn't ever seem to have been one at that location, but the orange roofs sure match the...

The New Orleans Mall at the corner of 10 Mile and Greenfield looks like an old Howard Johnson's restaurant, with the orange roof. But old guides I've checked indicate that while there was a...
I found this ad from a 1953 publication showing Tonnie's at 9111 Campau. None of these buildings are here today according to Google Maps. 32427

I just came across this photo that my Dad would have taken in the early 50s. I'm guessing, due to one of the business, that this is Campau in Hamtramck. Does anyone recognize or remember any...
One if my ancestors lived at this address, which I cannot find. Any ideas?

Thank you for the ideas. I have a 1964 yellow pages for the area and strangely there are no listings for any A&Ps, Farmer Jacks, or Chathams.
This is a 1964 shot of the corner of Maple & Lahser in 1964. The current Kroger complex [[previously a Farmer Jack), built in the early 70s, was not there yet. Does anyone remember what this square...
I never understood the concept of giving free money to a complete stranger.
Lowe's used to sell 2' X 5' rectangles of sod and they always sold out. They don't carry it anymore. Are there any local outlets for such a small purchase? I don't need much and don't want to drive...
When going south on Northwestern Hwy right past Middlebelt, there is a silhouette on the distant downhill horizon that looks like the Renaissance Center. The road is certainly pointed that way, but...
I have a couple of automatic watches that need minor repairs. The places I've been to in Bham want to do a complete overhaul which is many hundreds of $$. Are there any true watch "repair" shops that...
With such 20th c visionaries as Eliel and Eero Saarinen, Charles and Ray Eames, Harry Bertoia, Carl Milles and Marshall Fredericks, among many others who lived and worked there, Cranbrook has a heck...
My silly criterion for a bookstore's "depth" is always to see if they have any Bukowski on the shelves. This BAM passed the test with a copy of Post Office.
I was happy to see yesterday that the closed Border's location at 13 and Southfield has just reopened as a Books a Million. Despite the "independent vs. chains" issue, I'm happy to have somewhere to...
I have read every word of every post in this thread and I am still missing something. If I come home from work and a family has broken into my house and says that they are "living" there as squatters...
Hour Detroit magazine has a feature on Pho at the Vietnamese restaurants on Dequindre and on John R. It mentions the following places: Pho Tai, Thang Long, Little Saigon, Thuy Trang, Pho Que Huong,...
This is not a quiz! I need to find out the make, model, & year of this car for a neighborhood history project. I'm pretty good at 50s cars but this stumps me. Thanks in advance to any experts!
I wish I could have been at the Stooges' legendary last show at the Palace in '74.
CCW instructors teach to never fire a "warning shot." In MI you may use lethal force if you:
1) are in a place where you have a legal right to be
2) are not committing a crime
3) have both a ...
Blinking yellow has meant "proceed with caution" for a few decades; why was the left-turn change made from blinking red, which is understood by all in MI to mean that green-lighted traffic is coming...
I worked for a couple of years at a drive-through, and the police I served were never, not once, seat-belted. That really irked one of my co-workers who had gotten a ticket for just that. [[This was...
