A shame you couldn't toss the abusers and leave the other interested/interesting types to post.
I can remember all the street signs and most of the businesses' signs being in Polish. I used to go there for the Strawberry Fest.
I can remember sitting in a showing of a Men In Black movie in a major city. The entire theatre audience was white, with one Black woman and two kids. Will Smith's character made the joke "Pulled...
I used to enjoy an after-work drink at Leiters, across from the GM Bldg. It was years later, after I moved out of state, that I found out it started as a Blind Pig.
Yet the body of water is not called the Detroit Strait.
Living elsewhere as I do, I don't make it home that often, but yesterday, Friday, I passed an accident that could not have happend more than 2 minutes before me coming from DTW and heading towards...
As a Canadian I can't get over how small Ottawa is.
I remember reading, back in the days when there were two local newspapers and the Stroh's plant was being imploded, that the widow of a man who drank himself to death sued Stroh's, claiming the...
Anyone remember the episode of Detroit 183 [[is that right) where the main guy had to go up to Mack-ah-nack Island for some reason? Talk about cringing.
All I can say to the OT is, I can't believe...
Wow, growing up, my parents were thrilled to drive us to Windsor to catch the train to Toronto and spend the weekend, they figured we were safer there than at home. We were four 16-yr-old girls,...
I thought Kmart sold crappy goods back in the 70s, I can't believe they've held on this long. I still remember 'blue light specials', being dragged there by my parents.
In the late 60s' there was an A&P in Utica, just N of 20 Mile. The building is still there, it's an auto parts place, but I'm always amazed at how small it is.
I'm sure there's dozens of us!
Speaking of architectural significance, I used to work occasionally in what was the old GM Bldg, connected to the Fisher. Last week was probably the first time I walked thru the lobby in 20 years,...
"A whole bunch of people LOVE McDonald's"
I have to agree with both of you, if you want fast food/Applebees go to those joints. Don't dumb down a place that actually has good food on the excuse...
Well, that was a depressing post, but can I say, I love the old photos and the new corresponding ones. This city has a lot of old stories that I find fascinating.
I'm just getting 'page not found'. But I spent a few day recently driving around with my brother all over town [[he delivers med supplies) and it's freaking amazing. WTF did happen to a city that...
I just got back from a visit to Detroit for a family reunion, and took in the Rivera/Kahlo exhibit while I was there. I got inspired, and about an hour ago I lost an eBay auction to buy one of the...

I live in Houston now, have for nearly 10 years. Before that I spent about 15 in Dallas. Before that, nearly 30 in Detroit. The racial tensions in Detroit were horrible, in Dallas I can only say...
If you're going to count BeefCarvers [[old BeefEasters) as a chain, then the one at I75 and 14 mile, across from the Oakland Mall.

I would have been 14, but never heard a word about this. Then again, my parents managed to keep the whole Oakland County Killer from me too.
I liked 187 better, and can't believe that one didn't make it, but this one shows promise too. It is slow, a bit, but that's character development, I suppose. I'm willing to watch a few more times.
