From what I heard... the city and business people were doing everything that they could to keep WTVS in Detroit, but that the GM of Detroit PBS [his name was Antonini... or something like that], and...
^ Let's put this into context.... GM has 857 workers at the RenCen. GM has 21,000 employees working at the Warren Tech Center.
It's easy to put two and two together... they have been slowly...
They currently occupy 1 1/2 towers of the 4 tower RenCen. If they only take 2 floors of the Hudson's Block... then they are shipping 90% of their downtown employees out to Warren...
^Agree
Also, the 500 & 600 towers have a different owner than GM.
Also, I think that if Gilbert does get ownership, he should give Blue Cross one of the towers for their HQ... next to RenCen...
OK... came up with an idea... Gilbert buys it [[or is given it!)... but for bargaining chips...
Tell AAA Michigan... which used to be located in the United Artists Building until the early...
You could be right!
As for tearing down the RenCen... that would be gawd awful... our most prominent downtown building. Lose our largest building complex... and states tallest tower! No way. ...
This Detroit New article mentions only that GM is leasing the top 2 floors of the Hudson's block??
...
When GM bought the Rencen in the mid 1990s [[they paid $78 million, and sunk in another $500 million)... Ford occupied one of the towers, and shifted all 1,700 employees to Dearborn, leaving them...
I am nowhere near as excited about this than most of you. What does this mean?
1) I assume this means them moving into the block [[not the tower). That block has less than 1 million square feet...
Interestingly enough, not all UNESCO sites have to be totally original. For example, the Hamburg Germany amazing warehouse district [built 1880-1927] of the massive port city [Germany's 2nd largest...
^^^ Richard... even though where I live it got to 99.2% totality... it never got dark... it was more like a 7:30PM late evening light outside. I didn't get glasses, so I thought I would just go for...
Over the last 20 years I gave 10 tours of the city to dance troupes from Europe, mainly Germany and Hungary. My itinerary never changed, since it got such rave reviews [not of my presentation, but...
I have been to 20 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in my lifetime... 5 in the USA, and 15 in Europe.
Europe has the most cultural ones, due to the long history and historic events. But the USA seems...
Still waiting for the tree... ;)
This is now the 3rd scoreboard since Comerica Park opened. There was another upgrade about 10 years ago.
Yup... as I mentioned in post #3515, there may be additional mechanical being built on top, but they are near the maximum height they were planning on. No more elevator core though.
OK... this is the best image so far comparing the new Hudson's Tower versus other downtown buildings... photo from Pure Detroit.
There may be some additional height added for mechanical to the top...
^Exactly... I would like to one day see the entire building converted to hotel use... that would be about 250 rooms. This hotel has by far the fanciest lobby in the city... granted that was never...
"Dragging their feet"... that should be on their family coat of arms...
As we all know... they kept dragging their feet on so many projects... and the city final "grew a pair"... with the...
The Roxbury Group, owners of the David Whitney Building, have converted the former Aloft Hotel into the HOTEL DAVID WHITNEY... a Marriott Autograph Collection hotel.
They converted 24 of the 104...
Yes... but unfortunately it has all the charm of a 1950s Gas Station road sign...
Thanks for the nice images night-timer. Is that image of you taken with both the Eddystone [[restored) and sadly demolished Park Avenue Hotels?
Have you seen the 2.5 acre Piet Oudolf Perennial...
Lowell... when seeing photos like the Ranson Willis house, I am sadly reminded of driving thru this neighborhood back in the 1980s, when there were about 4 times the number of these homes still...
I haven't... but then they are a non-profit group. I wonder if donors are balking at the price tag.
$120 million for a 2000 seat venue on such a small footprint seems like quite a hefty price. ...
Exactly... which we have all noticed that in some of your legendary long cut and pastes. The search engines placate to our whims and fancies.
