Deadline Detroit has a story about the Milner, and credits DY.

Greg, the owner of Leopold's, is a good guy and ran an interesting store. It was a great addition to Midtown. I feel bad for him....
Wasn't the growing number of false alarms one of the reasons that the city began pulling the boxes?
BTW: I was in San Francisco this summer. Red alarm boxes sit on street corners all over town.
I think Deadline Detroit broke this story early Wednesday morning.

A very unusual view of Detroit.

Until the cuts this week, the DFD of today wasn't half the size it was in the 1960s. There were 89 companies in 1960 and 66 until Wednesday, but usually only 58 or so in service every day.
But...
Agreed that money is a huge problem. It's "an experiment" in the sense the city is testing whether they can cut the DFD in such a sudden, large way, and not cause major loss of life or property....
To bring the thread back to the original topic, here is an update on the DFD:
They have sidelined about 40 percent of the fleet, an amazing experiment in a big American city that burns a lot....
I'm looking for more details. This is on Deadline Detroit:

I don't see any downside at all in 48124. It's got everything from hospitals, colleges, tourist attractions [[Greenfield Village), markets, bars, restaurants, retail, a train station, country club and...

Some of the criticism of Rochelle Riley in this thread is fair, but this column was one of her best. It's hardly news that Detroit has many poor and working poor people who don't appear at the games,...
Whatever the motives of the person who posted this, if the facts are accurate, it's a pretty outrageous situation. Where's Charlie LeDuff when we need him?
I'd to know more about another item on...
Here's one reason why I think contributing to chaos in the GOP is a good idea: It's a party that has so lost its way that it is seriously taking on contraception as an issue.
...
The rules for the closely watched Feb. 28 primary are clear: Anyone can vote in the Republican contest. You just have to request a Republican ballot. Your choice of ballot -- but not your choice of...
When is the last time a bowling alley opened in metro Detroit?
For what it's worth, maps from the 1880s show Mack on the far east side, cutting through farmland along what is now the Detroit-Grosse Pointe border.
Kevin Boyle is as good a speaker as he is a writer. I've heard him a couple of times and he's a spellbinder. I also have heard him say he grew up on Chatsworth. His parents are Irish immigrants.
No one disputes people have a right to defend themselves in their homes. But the Tigh Croff case is a poor example. True, his home had been burglarized a few times. That's very unfortunate. But the...
I think you can hitchhike to Ann Arbor and catch the Detroit-bound Megabus.
Seriously, this thread says everything that needs to be said about the region's absolute dysfunction. At least we have...
The plant remains standing but it literally looks as if bombs have been dropped on it. Walls are crumbling; almost no windows remain; trees grow on the roof; junk and debris are everywhere; fires...
Smirking at the death of two people is sad.
