RFK, Jr: How To Save American Democracy
Total duration 36 minutes:
Quote:
Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. gives a speech to a crowd at Mass Torts Made Perfect about how to save our Democracy from Republicans, the Tea Party, and corporate raiders.
Quote:
[15:45] The press in our country has been subverted and undermined. That's one of the things they did through Reagan's abolition of the Fairness Doctrine. One of the requirements they had in the Fairness Doctrine was that you had to tell the truth on the evening news. You know, they still have that law in Europe and they have it in Canada. That's why Fox News can't go to Canada. Because legally you pay huge penalties in Canada and Stephen Harper [[who's like a Mini-Me for George Bush), as the Prime Minister of Canada tried to abolish that law a year ago and we did big demonstrations in Canada and I wrote about it because he understood the importance of getting Fox News up there in order to lay the groundwork for a permanent "conservative" and by "conservative" I mean a corporate right. With the movement in Canada we were able to get rid of that....
Today the press in our country is completely subverted, not only that but they're in cahoots with the Citizen's United case because — last presidential election there was one billion dollars spent. This election is going to be a four billion dollar election because of the Citizens United case. And a lot of it is going to be money from corporations, foreign corporations and corporations that are all hidden. You don't know where it's coming from. These candidates, Obama's not going to know where the money is coming from.... And the press is in cahoots with them because where's this money going to go, this four billion dollars? It's going to go to the news departments. Ninety-nine percent of it is going to go to the electronic media news departments.... Now these news departments that were losing money, now they're going to be flush.
Papantonio: Obama Campaign Finally Gets Tough Against Romney
Quote:
Mike Papantonio and Ed Schultz talk about the Obama campaign's attack against Mitt Romney's record as a job-destroyer while at Bain Capital. Hopefully, this tactic signifies a shift in tactics for the Obama administration, which has been too ready to make nice with a GOP that wants to see him fail.

Papantonio: Republicans The Losers In War On Terror
Quote:
If you've been listening to Republican talking heads in the last few weeks, you'd think that President Obama has been one of the worst presidents when it comes to foreign policy and keeping America safe. But that couldn't be any further from the truth. Obama, unlike Bush before him, has taken a hard line stance against terrorist organizations and has captured or killed more than 30 top Al Qaeda leaders including Osama Bin Laden. Right now we're going to take a deeper look into what's happened to Al Qaeda since the death of Bin Laden -- joining Mike Papantonio for that discussion is Brian Katulis, a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress.

Papantonio: A Spooky Journey Into The Republican Brain
Quote:
Over the years we've received countless calls and emails from listeners asking us how to deal with Republicans who refuse to accept facts and embrace reality. Unfortunately, there really isn't a way to do that. Studies have proven that conservatives will actively seek out media outlets and relationships that foster the beliefs that they already hold and will prevent any new information that doesn't fit into their belief system from making it into their heads. Mike Papantonio talks about the odd ways in which the minds of a conservative function with Chris Mooney, author of the new book "The Republican Brain."

Quote:
Mike Papantonio and Ed Schultz discuss how some weak-kneed Democrats, much like Cory Booker, could potentially take down President Obama's 2012 campaign by being unwilling to fight back against the onslaught of Republican attacks.
Papantonio: The Worst Republican Party in History
Quote:
The modern incarnation of the GOP bears virtually no resemblance to the party that produced presidents like Teddy Roosevelt and Dwight Eisenhower. In fact, even Ronald Reagan would have been considered a moderate by the standards of today's Republican Party. With every new Tea Party member that gets elected to Congress, the Party is forced to shift their positions further and further to the right to appeal to their fringe base, leaving independents and moderates with only one alternative. Mike Papantonio discusses the radical shift in Republican ideology with Jesse LaGreca, a member of the Occupy Movement, and best-selling author and President of Libertas, LLC Cliff Schecter.

Papantonio: The Facebook IPO Fraudsters
Quote:
Facebook's stock went public last week and many small time investors thought that they were going to make a fortune by snagging shares in the IPO. But Wall Street had a different plan -- they knew this was going to be a hot stock with the public but they also knew that the financial projections were way below what the average investors believed they were. So, in typical Wall Street fashion, they selectively released information to a few investors which helped them make a ton of money when the stock was offered. Meanwhile, the average investor has continued watching their shares trend downward. Mike Papantonio talks about how Wall Street corruption has once again harmed mom and pop investors with attorney James Kauffman.
Papantonio: Jefferson Was Right -- Fear The Bankers
Quote:
Thomas Jefferson said "I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies." Sixty-three years later, Abraham Lincoln expanded that warning. Here is what Lincoln said: "I have two great enemies, the Southern Army in front of me and the financial institution in the rear. Of the two, the one in the rear is the greatest enemy... I feel at this moment more anxiety for the safety of my country than ever before in the midst of war." Both Jefferson and Lincoln look like oracles today.

Quote:
Mike Papantonio appears on The Ed Show on MSNBC to talk about the biggest news stories of the week -- including the return of the birthers and the John Edwards trial.
Papantonio: Why Young Voters Are Leaving GOP
Quote:
Republicans have done an amazing job in the last few months of alienating essentially every voter that isn't a wealthy, older, white male. Their voter ID laws have affectively alienated minorities, their regressive policies toward women have pushed female voters away from them, and their lack of concern over education and student loans has left young voters looking elsewhere for politicians to vote for. So, at the end of the day, do Republicans have any shot at winning over the hearts and minds of young voters? Mike Papantonio attempts to answer that question with Ben Adler, a contributing writer for the Nation magazine.

Quote:
Mike Papantonio appears on The Ed Show on MSNBC to discuss the mistrial of John Edwards and why the Justice Department should have stepped in and stopped this case before it ever even made it to trial. They also discuss the ongoing saga in Florida over Rick Scott's attempts to purge the voter rolls.
Papantonio: Industry Covers Up Blood Thinner Dangers
Quote:
One of the first things that George W. Bush did when he took office was to pack every possible federal agency with industry hacks. The result is that we were left with an FDA staffed with former employees of drug manufacturers like Pfizer, Merck, and Bayer. Those industry insiders were more concerned with helping their former employers by approving deadly drugs than they were with protecting the public's safety. Mike Papantonio discusses the latest in a long line of dangerous drugs that have been approved by our still-industry-friendly FDA with attorney Ned McWilliams.

Papantonio: Mitt Will Get Spanked in Wisconsin
Quote:
Mike Papantonio appears on CNBC's Kudlow Report opposite Tony Katz to discuss the Wisconsin recall election results and what it means for the rest of the country.
Papantonio: You Can't Make Nice With The Tea Party
Quote:
Today's Republican Party is the most vitriolic, hateful Party we've seen in modern history. They can't stand Obama, they can't stand Democrats of any kind, and they see no problem spreading outright lies and hatred about progressives at every possible opportunity. In spite of that, some progressives are still confused about how to handle the Tea Party GOP and they think that we should play nice. Mike Papantonio talks with Paul Waldman, a contributing editor at The American Prospect, who says that there's only one way to deal with these Tea Partiers, and that is to get tough.
Papantonio: The Pharmaceutical Industry's War on Women
Quote:
While the GOP was fighting their war on women over the use of birth control the pharmaceutical was launching their own war against women with birth control -- but Big Pharma's war actually has a body count. Birth control manufacturers like Merck have been systematically hiding the dangers that their wonder drug birth control methods pose to women's health and as a result innocent women are dying. Mike Papantonio talks about the dangers that the pharmaceutical industry doesn't want you to know about their blockbuster birth control drugs with attorney Chris Paulos.
