HELP MARVIN AND LOUISE MORRIS SAVE THEIR HOME – DON’T LET HOME EQ AND BARCLAY’S DEPRIVE DETROIT SENIORS OF THEIR LIFETIME HOME

What you can do:

1. Come to a Rally at the Morris home this Thursday, July 22, 5:00 pm, 9592 Plainview, Detroit MI 48228 to express solidarity with the fight to Save the Morrises Home.

2. Pack the Courtroom – Friday July 23, 8:30 am, Judge Kathleen Macdonald’s Courtroom, Room 1107 Coleman A. Young Municipal Building, 2 Woodward Ave., Detroit, MI 48226. Home Eq and Barclay’s are asking Judge Macdonald to issue a judgment of possession to take away the Morrises home.

Marvin and Louise Morris are senior citizens, 79 and 77 years old respectively. They have lived at their home at 9592 Plainview, Detroit, MI 48228 for 32 years. Their home was paid off, but unfortunately like so many others in Detroit and across the country, they were lured into a sub-prime predatory loan re-financing.

Since that time, the Morrisses have been in a constant battle to hold onto their home. They previously challenged Home Eq’s accounting practices, and received a settlement which Home Eq has not forgotten.

Now over a disputed arrearage of $7673.29, the Morrisses once again face the loss of their home. This time the courts have ruled against the Morrises, and they are facing imminent eviction from their home of 32 years.

During the course of this litigation, Mr. & Mrs. Morris have paid over $8,000 into escrow diligently paying their normal monthly payment of $467.00 per month since December 2008. This is on a monthly income of less that $1000 per month. There have been at least seven homes emptied by foreclosure on their block. A home across the street sold for $1200. If Mr. and Mrs Morris are evicted, their home will sell for far less than the $8000 they have paid into escrow. The amount in the escrow is more than the property in their area is selling for now.

HomEq received federal funding for modifications to “help” borrowers, yet HomEq has never even attempted to work out anything with the Morrises. Unfortunately, the Morrises are not alone, senior citizens are thrown out daily because servicers like HomEq refused to work with borrowers for homes that are now worth only $3000-$4000, like the Morris’ home. This conduct must be stopped.

I hear ya, the so-called American dream of owning a home is somewhat tainted now. Some of these sorry _ss banks and mortgage companies don't want to work with you, they want you to lose your home. A house is nothing more than shelter just like a apartment. The benefits of owning a home at one time out weighed renting, that's not the case anymore. Between high _ss property taxes, maintenance and the fact your home is worth a 1/4 of its original value makes owning a home a losing proposition in the current environment.

It appears that we have won a victory in the Morris case. Yesterday,
Vanessa Fluker, the Morris's attorney, was called by the attorney for
Homeq and Barclays. He informed Ms. Fluker that they were adjourning
the hearing for a judgment for possession scheduled for Friday, July 23,
2010. In addition, they were proposing a resolution to this case that
would allow the Morris's to stay in their home.

Based on this call, people do not need to pack the courtroom on Friday.

e want to thank everyone for the calls and emails to Homeq that
produced this settlement offer. However, as no settlement is final
until it has been reduced to a written agreement, people should stay on
the alert.

Let's keep up the struggle to stop foreclosures and evictions and win
the Moratorium that is so desperately needed.

Now your coalition needs to gin up a mob and go after the person who held the gun to their heads as he forced them to borrow money and to offer their home as collateral for the loan! BTW, did the predator come back later and take their loan money, too?

You don't have to hold a gun to someone's head to swindle them. I'm reminded of my grandpa in his later years, when his Alzheimer's was starting to take hold. He was living on 70 acres on the bleeding edge of exurbia, and this one sleazeball developer who thought the place would make a great subdivision kept taking him out to lunch and giving him papers to sign. It's the oldest trick in the book.

You know, at 77 and 79 years old and living on a street with seven abandoned homes, it may have been the best, most caring strategy to help them leave and move in to a nice subsidized senior apartment rather than attempt to force their continuance in their house. As it is, now they still have to pay taxes, pay that loan,pay utilities, attempt to safeguard their home. I wonder if the interference of "caring" people was wise.

Lets get the facts straight for history sake.
The democrats caused the housing and financial crisis by having the utopian socialist dream that everyone should own a house. Jimmie Carter started the Community Housing Reinvestment act
[[sounds like a real great name doesn't it? typical ) in 1977 with his race based lending quotas to make all things equal in the democrats utopian mind. Fact: Billy Bob Clinton then added to the problem by additonal quotas and the having the liberal media put out the usual redlining stories to make people hate the racist evil lenders who would not make loans to people who could not afford loans. A typical Saul Alinsky rules for radicals tactic, demonize the enemy, which Clinton was famous for. Barneys Frank and Chris's Dodd both forced FNMA FMAC to also make loans to people who couldn't afford them and the government insured these bad loans with tax subsidized money.
Bush tried to halt the bad lending practices but the dems would not vote for it so nothing happened.

Sad story, but nobody told these people they had to take a loan that they would have problems repaying.

I cant imagine The George Bushes holding a hammer and building houses for people out of kindness the way Jimmy Carter did many times. I wouldnt wish their kind of craftsmanship on anybody anyhow... Toenailing leading to crucifixion more than likely.
