The problem I have with this is that the same racist folks that insult the president also insult the office of the president. These are probably the same folks who 10,15,20 years ago would lash out at you if you disrespected the office of the president and would call you unpatriotic.

How hypocritical can people be. To be critical of his polices is one thing, to call him out of his name is something different, it negatively reflects on the office and it is a reflection on the profound ignorance of the people doing it, and the intolerance that affects our country

The people who are the danger to free speech are those that subscribe to it provided it conforms to their "free speech".

Paulding County, Georgia? Big surprise there. Just look at that sign. It looks like something out of Deliverance. They're doing a fantastic job reinforcing that the Deep South is and always will be a total backwater.

poobert, Except for Delta connections in Atlanta, I had not been in GA for decades. A couple of years ago, my wife and I decided to stay off the interstate heading back from FL to WI. We drove from Florida almost to TN on lesser travelled Georgia state highways; through those small towns and rural counties purposely avoiding large population centers. For most of the trip, the traffic was so light that there was no one to be seen in the rear view mirror. The following is impressions from that drive.

The route: FL line near Tallahassee> Hwy 33> slyvester> Wenona> US 41> Cordele > Viena >Hwy 90> Junction City > Hwy 41> Newman > Hwy 27> Summerville

We stayed on Moultrie and walked around near downtown before breakfast. There was a proper old County building in the center of a square with statues maintained by the Daughters of the Confederacy. The residential streets had affluent houses [[presumably white) mixed together with very poor housing with whites and blacks. It was more integrated than most of metro Detroit.

There was an injured bicyclist along the highway. A black and white emergency squad crew with modern equipment showed up promptly.

We stopped at a McDonald’s that was not up to national standards. It was clean, the food was fine, but the facility itself was more like a ma and pa type place. Blacks and whites were sitting together at some tables. Fish sandwiches were not on the menu.

When we got out for gas in another town, there was a big white church van. A black woman got out dressed in a long white gown, church dress, or something. The gas station loudspeakers were playing gospel music. This wan't on a Sunday.

We stopped at a pecan place storefront where farmers brought in their crop. There were some bagged and processed pecans available at the cash register to take up north as favors. We were the only whites in the place. It was sort of a hang out for black workers. I never had the sense of anything threatening from blacks or whites throughout the drive although I did stay within speed limits just in case those stories were true.

The laid back countryside was often hilly and more wooded than I would have thought; kind of a land neglected by franchises and corporate commercialism. Sections of highway were 45mph in hillier areas. Signs pointed to roads leading to Jimmy Carter’s home in Plains 40 miles away. Small herds of beef cattle and tall pecan trees mixed into the landscape.

Whites tended to be richer than blacks from what I could see. No surprise there. I did not, however, sense any overt or imagined racial hostility directed toward me or anyone else. I’m not saying it wasn’t there, I just didn’t notice what I sometimes do on visits to Detroit.
