Hey - where is everybody today??????
Yo..........
Whew - thought I was last person left for a minute! Thanks, Z!
been lurkin around, just nothing special going on down here in TN, 'cept watching grass grow.
I always look forward to catching up on all the news of the day before I left work - and I thought it was still morning - and UGHHHHHHH - the terror I felt!!!!
We have been getting a lot of rain - had to about reseed the lawn and it is looking good for the moment. temps supposed to go to 80 this weekend. My youngest is running in a 1/2 marathon Saturday - his first, and temps should be great for it. close to 30,000 runners. was glad to see the bowling event went well. any further thought to converting the school to a few lanes?????????
Hey Laing -
We're sure praying that someone expresses an interest in the school to use it for schools - or whatever! It would be great to have some "neighbors" in that building! Good luck to your son in his Marathon. The last marathon I did was the Washington Marathon - prior to 9/11. Beautiful run around the monuments, RFK Stadium and back. Didn't break any land/speed records, but held my own. Rigor Mortis set in, not too long after the race. It was the first and only one in Washington!
Yeah, I see - dead silence - I know I don't look like an athlete, but kept up a 5mph pace - thought for sure they'd find me in "Rock creek park" since that's where all the dead bodies are found in Wshington!
thanks CFG. just had a crazy thought about the school. with the parking across 7 mile, why not have some sort of an antique mall take over. rent out each room for each vendor and have the church run it like a nonprofit - funnel the money back to the church. Could start small, maybe use half the front of the bldg first. i know it's crazy, but there are a lot of nonprofits setting up businesses now to supplement their revenues.
Great idea - but we don't have any "people" power to get something like that investigated and started. Our entire St. Jude staff consists of Fr. Robert and Lynn. Neither one has a spare moment to devote to a start-up of that complexity. Now, if someone were wanting to start it up and pay the church rent on those rooms, we'd probably be talking a whole new ballgame. Agreed, the ideas for the school are endless, from daycare to eldercare, but the time, investment capital and people to run it, would ALL have to come from an outside source.
here i go brainstorming again - gets me in trouble. with all the vacant property which the diocese has I am sure, the diocese could do it as a diocese ran business. maybe get the knights of columbus involved. but like you say, it would take a full time person at least to run things. I do like the idea of elder care, though. and, to think of the staff the church had back in the day - brings up thoughts of the church in Sister Act.
It would take some planning, but I think it's doable to open the Gym up for some free soup one or two Saturdays a month. Cfg, I'll bring Tim Horton's donuts to the first planning meeting.
Round 1 goes to the Detroit Red Wings 4 games to zero.
GO WINGS!
Columbust showed up to play tonight, but it was too little - too late. They've actually got some talent on that team.
The fans, though, are typical newby bush leaguers with no class as evidenced by their taunting Ozzie chants, boos of legitimate ref calls, and worst of all garbage tossing.
And by the 'get your broom out' comment, I'm assuming you meant for the sweep, not other, more Salem-esque reasons, hmmmmm?
Yeah, what a pity it is those two dufuses had that falling out, and stopped blithering to each other in our public spaces. Else we could ask that one loser with the front row seat in the Shart Tank what we should look out for when we play the Mightily Sucks of Anaheim next round.
And I'm shocked that you didn't
Well, ok then, I'll let it slide. This time
I haven't had mine yet, but now that you mentioned it, I think I'm going to have to go make a pot of Sumatra.
So, I'm slacking at work today. Been thinking. Does anyone have any idea when the Boy Scouts ceased to exist at St. Jude?
Z, how come all your posts say 109? Shouldn't they be increasing - or don't they increase if you do quick replies?
Thanks.......and JC......Nothing like sharing with the rest of the class!
Nobody else asked.
Now they all say 112 see???
I just found another little ditty about this new setup. It makes you wait at least 60 seconds in between posts:eek:
60 seconds between posts, at least 10 characters per post and limited attachments/pictures. The not improvements on the new site.
Agreed and it took me, how long?, to notice the posting totals? Just remember the slower kids in class when you discover something new!
OK, CFG, I'll remember next time.
Thank you - remember, sometimes I'm one of the "special" children in the row of chairs in the front of the room, needing extra explanations.
Thinly veiled attempt - by that quick response. That guy still cracks me up!
CMAO! Good one, J. There is some humor in seeing an innocent person squirm over something not intended ... reminds me of a time when someone I know entered a fake birthdate in a profile and then months later had to explain that to well wishers. I imagine, though, it's funnier to onlookers.
Congratulations to Cfg for making the 10,000th post to this forum!
Nice win by the Tigs tonight. Bottom of the lineup contimues to perform. Maggs finally gets an extra base hit. Zoom's back. 3 home run,s so get a copy of the box score and get your free Arby's sandwich :)
I'm going to make two copies of the box score ... one for Arby's and one to keep. I love a solid no-stress game like this!
OK, Slackers. It's Monday. You're back to work so you should have plenty of time to chime in here.
The Garwood folks are spanking us on post count on the new forum.
Where's that Jets pride?
Seems like they have a very similar type thread with more players.
Maybe we have to recruit. I've got a prospect in the wings.
I don't know anything about the Garwooders - but I've got to know that we can beat them in the stretch - and thanks 7K for the 10,000 acknowledgment. I don't jump in and out of this thread enough to know what # posting anyone may have.
This may have been asked before, but why didn't the post count carryover at the switch? By the way, my son finished his 1/2 marathon Saturday in 2 hrs 26 minutes, which had him in the top half of the 1/2'ers. The temp was over 80, and a returned vet died of a cardiac arrest after he crossed the finish line. Was only 26 - so sad.
Congrats to your son laing that's not too bad a time. Why does it seem like someone always dies in these events, sometimes the least expected it's a shame.
As far as the post answer I just don't think the new forum was capable of transferring the number of posts from one to the other. Web based apps aren't my field of expertise so I don't know the technical why's and wherefore's. Maybe when JC gets her power back on she could go into a little more detail
I didn't know JC was without power - Geez, that's a bite. We were without for a few days during Christmas, and though our house kept warm with the gas powered wall heater in the family room - it was a bugger to try and read or do anything by candle and/or flash-"light".
here is a pic of my son just before the finish line - hope i did this right.
i amaze myself - it worked. by the way, he is the one with the shaved head
God rest his soul.
Laing - he doesn't even look winded! Great picture!
thanks, guys. believe me, he was winded, slept for 3 hours when he got home:)
But the big question - could he walk once he got up from his nap? It was my experience that all my muscles had atrophied in a VERY short amount of time!
he was fine when he woke up. only complained about a slight twisted ankle. makes me tired just thinking about the whole thing.
Tsom: I'll take World History for $1000 Alex
^^^^ I'm so confused.^^^^
A terrible thing to do to a person on a Monday I might add. :)
I discovered the down side of those weather alert radios last night. There were storms in the area, and every hour I got treated to a new update. I'm thinking that putting it next to the bed wasn't such a hot idea after all.
The IBM may be smart, but not that obscure.

I'm sorry Dave, but I'm afraid I can't let you use that buzzer...
If JC was around she'd know the next line
I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do.
I still like you, 7, it's DTE and Charter I dislike.
It would have been theoretically possible to bring over the post count. If they brought over all the posts that were on the old site, I think it would have brought the count, but because he was having problems bring over all the databases, I think Lowell just decided to do a clean start. He didn't bring the threads over, so they would have had to recreate the counts by hand on the ones that were restarted on this side
Aaaaah, it's good to be home.
This conversation can serve no purpose anymore.
Look , I can see you're really upset about this. I honestly think you ought to sit down calmly, take a stress pill, and think things over
Brings on the Sucks!!
Dionne you can put that song away for this year because no one needs to "Know the way to San Jose"
I wonder if there is anyone out there from San Jose who has phantom tickets for the next series.
Okay EB you chastise us for not posting with this and then we never hear from you again. What am I missing? Maybe you need to go back to work so you have more time to chat. Must be hell to have all that free time on your hands and be too busy to give us the time o' day.
I'm back now, EB, at least for an hour or so. But I'm back on line and have electric AND hot water. Cleanliness is next to Godliness and all that, you know.
JC - Welcome back! I missed you!
Glad to see you're back JC. While you're appreciating your hot water, I'm appreciating cool air. Our A/C crapped out over the weekend, and it's been rather hot and sticky here the last few days. The good new is we dodged a bullet, and our 20 year old unit is still chugging along. Ah Texas, where life without A/C is unbearable in April. Can someone send a few cool breezes this way???
I'm sitting here silently monitoring all that goes on.
I'll move in when necessary and appropriate.
I missed you, too, CFG, as well as all y'all.
Tsom, I worked down there one July, and then a couple years later from Jan into May. Give me Austin in April anyday. I love it there. I miss the Blue Bonnets, Indian Paintbrush and Blanket Flower. The Willow City Loop is my favorite place to take a ride.
Now, July in Austin is unmitigated hell when it comes to heat, humidity and ugly, cracked earth. It was too hot to swim there, until nightfall.
That's Fr. EB, or have you forgotten my courageous venture into the fringes of the priesthood? I'd have made it to if it weren't for some narrow-minded autocrats in the seminary.
Attachment 880 Paintbrush and Blue Bonnets
Attachment 881 Willow City Loop-those areas that look like water are actually Blue Bonnets.
Well, I'm off to the city for a little work. See ya later
I had never seen anything so beautiful as the bluebells in the hills in San Antonio. That's my favorite Texas city to provide some training - Houston - not so much. Being there anytime near the summer is so humid - breathing outdoors takes aqualungs!
I like San Antonio as well. My wife actually commuted to work there for a while, so we got to know the city fairly well.
Sad to say the wildflowers were a bit of a disappointment this year. Our winter was drier than normal, so they weren't as abundant, just a few patches here and there.
OK, Slackers.
Guess I have to wake you up again.
Perhaps we need to start a recruitment drive to bring in fresh blood.
What about all those folks on the FB St. Jude pages? How do we get them over here?
