Sorry, no pics I will be incognito:cool:

I had better see a ton of pictures of the Grand Tetons, Yellowstone and Rushmore. The Tetons are my dream trip. I want to go to Jackson Hole in the worst way.
My nephew lives near Charlotte, NC, and is a chef/instructor at Johnson and Wales there. He's getting married next fall and I think I'm going down for it.
Oh, and if you get a chance, stop off in Portland and take some pics of the International Rose Test Gardens, please.
A photo of St. Jude Church as viewed from my back yard on Eastwood back in the day. It was and is a powerful beacon in that community.
Yea, but I'll be packin', too. And I've got more than one cartridge.
KR - VERY COOL! I love that picture. Our house faced Morang and Kelly - so we got the Denby Beacon light flashing in the distance from our upstairs bedroom.
EB, Z - you don't have to post the pictures - you could just send them to us????? We promise not to publish......well, I promise not to publish!~ :-)
I woke up every morning to the sound of the Angelus bells at 8 a.m. and could look out my window and see the church steeple in its full glory. I will admit that the sound of those bells on Saturdays and during the summer wasn't all that welcome when I became a teen, but I really would love to hear them now.
We were working on the grounds for a few hours after Mass on Monday - and at noon - the bells were awesome. Yes, JC - it is a joy to hear them ring!
Looking at KR's pick it reminded me of something. Those telephone poles used to have to have those climbing spikes in them. Did anyone ever make it close to the top of one of those. I know I made it up a few rungs but not much further than that.
Z - good question - I always found those climbingh spikes tempting, but never got the nerve to try it!
The first set were pretty high up off the ground, so as a little kid, I couldn't get my leg up high enough, and later, it lost its appeal
Try to remember, I was a girl. We didn't have 'buddies'. We had girlfriends, and girlfriends didn't stand on each others backs. I had friends that were boys, too, but they wouldn't have let me climb up the pole. It was the 60's and girls still needed protecting.
When we played army, I was always the nurse. Cowboys and Indians, the helpless little farm wife who had to be saved.
Certainly not the one in the picture, the neighboors and the parents kept pretty tight rein on the kids and telephone poles. "Those are high volt wires and can kill you instantly" was a refrain that kept the spirit of adventure under wraps. Like you, only a few rungs were made. [[The first one was the toughest). The 7_and_Kelly_Kid and I ususually targeted the telephone poles with alley rocks on our way to George's party store.....Life was good!

Well my house on Nottingham just north of Britain faced west, and incredible as it may seem there was just enough of a break in the houses and trees along all that distance that we were able to see the Denby Beacon light flashing from our living room window.
It was quite a local landmark. I remember later taking long runs and walks and judging the impressiveness of my distances by how much further away than usual the Denby Tower seemed to be!!!
Here's an up-close shot of that Denby Beacon, taken right from the end of Britain at Duchess - as with most of the rest that I've posted here, taken in about April of 2001.

So, what's your point, Z?:D
Same went for the girls.
Wow! Not one post yesterday! How come, everybody working? What a drag.
Have a safe trip EB.
Son did okay in the short film fest he and is associate entered. Nominiated for three categories: Best Film Concept, Best Director, and Best Actor.
They took Best Director.
Thanks to those who inquired.
What, am I noone? I posted 4 times yesterday. Z posted 3x, as did CFG, not to mention EMG, KR and 7 and K.
Gee, MKap.
I'm happy for your son. That's a great beginning to a lifelong career. Congrats.
Met up with a friend last night in Eastpointe. Shot some 9 ball at Snookers [[The old Kelly's Kue). Afterwards we cruised the old neighborhood along Kelly. Regina and Luthern East are now Chandler Park Middle School and Elementary school respectively. The school grounds and buildings look as nice as ever. Sadly, the former NDHS building and grounds are neglected.... bushes and weeds growing wild, graffiti by the back door enterance to the cafeteria. Fr. Bryson would not have been happy.
7K: Thanks again for the video. There's nothing more than those bells to bring back great memories of SJ.
For your next assignment, if you don't mind, could you capture the bells peeling?
Anyway, I was curious as to what bell was ringing first the top or middle one. In the video it is obvious that the bottom one is ringing last because the whole bell moves thus striking the clapper. It is not obvious what bell is rang first....which leads to my next question/observation.........
It seems originally that all three St. Jude bells were sounded by the bells moving and thus striking the clapper as compared to the clapper moving and striking the bell. When did that change? If I recall correctly, when the bells would peel around the time of a high mass, or wedding all three bells actually moved at a different time. In fact, the bells for peeling had to be activated individually by a key switch inside the sacristy....so the timing was random. When and why did the sounding mechanism of the bells change? Were there mechanical or repair problems for the top two bells? Curious minds want to know.
Me thinks ol' M's just yankin' our chains, eh?
Any of you folks planning on holding or folding at one of the card parties SJ's got planned for next week?
"Chandler Park Middle and Elementary schools?" I couldn't find them on Google, but then again I didn't try too many searches. So are they Harper Woods public schools, or new private schools? I'm surprised they named them after Chandler Park. That area is not anywhere NEAR Chandler Park!
And thanks to 7andKellly for the St. Jude Bells video. With just one bell, it didn't seem all that spectacular, but it was interesting to see nonetheless considering that I didn't live close enough to hear them ringing and was never near there when it did. For all I knew that tower might have been "just for decoration" and long abandoned! :) My own church at the time [[St. Brendan) didn't have bells.
J, we need your dirty socks out for this evening's playoff game so I'm glad you got them out already ... no, wait ... I guess those are mine I smell.
Aaaanyhoooo ... GO WINGS!!!
Get your free Arby's tomorrow
Tigs win let's see if the Wings can make it a great night!
Somebody better buy Clete Thomas a Root Beer after that game
Round 4, Game 1 is over.
Red Wings win 3-1 !!!
Still the cameras pan Crosby. How bout that Justin Abdelkader [[MSU)
Happy to say my son was in attendance for the Tiger's win tonight! The DC area MSU alumni watering hole sponsored a bus trip to Baltimore [[keg included, of course) to see the game. If he's lucky he might even remember some of it.
Does St. Jude Parish currently celebrate Pentecost by asking everyone to wear red?
Follow up question: Does St. Jude or other parishes have the readings of the Acts of the Apostles on Pentecost done in different languages. Our parish has been doing that for years. Today it was done by various parishioners in German, Spanish, Italian, Polish, Greek, Mandarin Chinese, Vietnamese, and Sign Language [[for some reason French was not included this year) .....It still is awesome...You knew the Holy Spirit's presence..
Well, are all my peeps happy campers on this grey and dismal Monday morning? Both of out teams did it again!
Huuuuuuuuh?!!!
Call an ambulance immediately, and have them drive you to the nearest Best Buy where personnel there will wheel you over to the HDTV room. An hour watching Sports Center highlights, top tens and bottom line scores, and you should be back to your old self...unless your GM shares went to zero today, in which case it may take two hours.
Thnaks for the advice 7, I guess I was just temporarily blinded by a sense of reality. I'm better now.
Way to go Wings and Tigers, thanks for not wasting about 12 hours of my life this weekend:)
Oh and thanks LeBron for taking the limelight off of the Bad Boy Pistons for their walking off the court against the Bulls, funny how they were portrayed as poor sports and he's justified it as being a competitor.
Got in too late in the day! Yes, we still wear red at St. Jude's on Pentecost Sunday, but we've never had the gospel spoken in different languages - very interesting!
Sorry for the last post guys, I guess I was not on the last page of the forum. My bad.
Sorry JC, no slight intended!
7K - Nice "Ring" tone. Brings back many nice memories.
I should have read the last page too! Bells move, in sequence against clappers. You can "push the magic" button and have the bells peal in sequence as we did at Easter Vigil and during the Stations during Benediction. When I shinny up the bell tower, I'll make sure I have the Bell tower activator and the Padre doesn't! .....I'll also make sure that it's NOT near noon or 6pm!
Can we create our own ringtones? Anyone know?
If anyone has the audio on mp3 format, there are free converters on the web that will send them to your phone. Google "mp3 to rintgone". Here's one I found on CNET. . I haven't used this one, but I have used stuff downloaded from cnet before, they do scans to make sure they're not malicious.
http://download.cnet.com/MP3-To-Ring...-10441978.html
I was looking over that converter. It's not free, but they do allow you to a free trial. Also, if you go to that page and page down a bit, there are other free converters on CNET. They work on other formats as well.
By the way, I have done this in the past. Being a big fan of sci-fi movies, I downloaded Godzilla's roar to my phone. I made the mistake however, of assigning it to calls from my wife. She did not see the humor in that at all.
I would guess not, TS, I would guess not!
OK, JC, you're our computer expert - any EASY ways to do this?
Greetings from the Smoky Mountains. Great riding. Tires scuffed to within an inch of the rims. Impressed some sport bike kids from Toronto with that this morning. I was impressed they'd done a 600+ mile day on crotch rockets. Oh, to be young again.
7K - I don't know how to play poker - but would probably go if they had a bunco table! :-) I haven't volunteered yet to be a "chip" girl - geez, who wouldda thought that would happen again ---but may have time on the next round.
No, 7, not going to the Hold 'em tourney. I've got a wedding this weekend and 2 graduations the next, and then we leave for Colorado for 2 1/2 weeks, so I'm hanging on to money
I tried the software for the ringtones, but Verizon won't let it upload to my phone. It's a fairly easy process. Just install, select an MP3 you want to use, drag the ends of the sound graph to choose the clip segment, convert and upload.
Too bad, I can't conveniently "poke" a hole in a gambling chip and get to keep it! What did we sell besides chips, J - weren't there pretzels in a box too? I don't remember - except we got to leave early for lunch, go to the gym, and grab our boxes which were in the closet closest to the convent side of the gym.
We sold Better Made chips, BBQ chips, shoestrings, both BBQ and plain, pretzels, cheese corn and I think popcorn.
And, yes, the chip closet was next to the door that led out to the convent side of the gym, closest to 7 Mile. The stairs to 131 were right there, too
Shoestrings - I forgot about those! DId we got room to room? We were, what, in the 5th grade when we were chip girls?
Yes, we went room to room, but I think it was the older grades. We went at lunch time and pushed our wares for a nickel a bag. I think we started that in 5th or 6th. I know I was 'chip captain' in 6th.
I don't think we ever made it to Chip Captain - maybe too many "broken" bags? :-)
They are beginning to quiver, so I think they're ready for tonight
eeewwwww, well, whatever works!!!
and, I think we all had a tanned nose back then - at least when there was something in it for us!
