What say it is not so,because so many in the other thread sought to argue that it was a perfect system they convinced me that it was,so I asked trudoe to keep it.
It's not surprising that the app was killed. They killed the vaccine requirement at the same time, something the U.S. still has in place. Talk about one extreme to the other.
The problem with all of these social experiments is the people that pay the price before they reverse course.
The same government that called participants in a trucker protest Nazis because of the economic impact found it perfectly okay to justify and create their own negative economic impact.
Just like all the people that lost their jobs for not taking the shot,when now a shot is not a requirement for employment.
The article also brings to light that this recent decision was made days before it was scheduled to go to court over the constitutional part of it.
Had it gone to court and ruled as a violation of constitutional rights,who could have been held accountable?
Not the people that implemented it.
I had lunch at the DIA with a Windsor friend a couple days ago. He said it took him 14 minutes to get from Walkerville to the DIA. Maybe we're starting to get back to normal. Can't wait to visit Windsor again.
I found nothing wrong with ArriveCans’ original purpose, to trac people coming in and out of Canada and their vaccine status and travel intent. That’s not useless..…We had a global pandemic and they were trying to control it. Public health is a major responsibility of any good government. Ofcourse it’s importance changes, as vaccination availability changes, and compliance does….And the situation becomes more manageable. If Trudeau did nothing, the same people would be criticizing him for that.. comparing controlling those people who tried to shut down Ottawa for 3 weeks ..illegally, or block an international border for weeks, again illegally, is mute… Incidentally many Canadian citizens referred to some participants of the “ convoy “ as Nazis because some were running around carrying Nazi flags, along with your typical confederate flags with profanity laden slogans..such short memories. .Many countries have similar requirements to ArriveCAN ..I use it 2 to 3 times weekly to get back to Windsor and family, takes me a minute or so to complete, all important data is grandfathered on it, not a big deal, and yes I get from the near East side of Windsor to Downtown Detroit often in 10 minutes or less providing you don’t cross in rush hours. No need to hesitate to cross, been like that for many months if your vaccinated.
That’s about par the course,take a couple symbols that were used by a couple of people out of 1000s as a symbol of how one feels the government is acting.
Backed up by a government who acted in the very manner that the symbol represents by judging an entire group and using that emotion against them in order to justify your cause and then took the extra step of stripping every citizen of their rights.
It is totally irrelevant what one thinks any symbol represents,the ability of one to present it is the definition of the freedoms that a free world provides
It is pretty clear that those who oppose those freedoms are actually supporting and representing what they actually oppose.
Unions have in protest shut down commence for decades costing billions to the economy with the most recent being the train workers union that was ready to shut down commence that would have impacted trade,nobody called them Nazis.
The casino workers Union in AC shut down the casino industry overnight at a cost of 14,000 jobs in one day that resulted in millions of lost revenue to the city of AC,and devastated the local economy.
It was okay for them to fight for what they thought they deserved and it was okay for them to stand up for their rights,but it was not okay for somebody that was independent to do the same thing without being called a Nazi.
Punishing a group of people because they are not a part of the work collective is the very definition of what a Nazi is.
Individuals standing up for their rights in protest being called Nazis is the very definition of Nazism.
A government that uses emotions in order to seek support against those that oppose them by making them public enemies is the very same tactic that the Nazis used in order to justify murdering millions with the pública blessing because the government told them they were evil and needed to be weeded out.
They were not called Nazis by the government because a couple people were flying the Nazi flag as a symbol of protest,the were called Nazis because the government calling them that knew the use of the word would garner public support in order to justify any actions taken.
It worked,an entire population willfully gave up their civil rights and all it took was the use of the word Nazi. In Germany all it took was the use of the word Jew.
I never used Canapp but clearly the majority had issues with it which is why it is being rescinded.
The group think of having distaste against those who opposed it simply because they had no issues with it puts people once again in the position of supporting the very thing they claim to oppose.
Thanks DetBill for sharing your real world experiences using the app while crossing the border. It's so nice to hear from someone - in a concise and factual manner - who actually used the app and crossed the border.
And those who supported the policy of slamming freeways through neighborhoods only look at their personal experience of ease of use,they could not look at the bigger picture and who else it effected as long as they were happy.
Well, the press release is out from the Canadian government.
They are indeed nixing mandatory use of ArriveCan......
But they are doing a good deal more, or less, than that, depending on your perspective.
No more Vaccination requirements
No more Reporting
No more isolation/quarantine
No more masking on trains/planes.
Its all gone.

Ok, so now people are getting what they want; autonomy of their own health and the ability to protect themselves and their families without being told how by the government. Now let's see how many of them actually take ANY steps to protect everyone from Covid.Quote:

It was never about protecting others,it was about individuals taking steps that they felt necessary to protect themselves,it’s not the governments job to protect anybody it’s their job to provide the necessary materials and support in that sense.
If they were capable of protecting anybody,nobody would have died.
Finally. Sanity restored. While we're add it, perhaps it's time for a more streamlined border and immigration regime between our two nations? As "best friends" so to speak, and our economies developed to a similar standard, it really should be easier to live, work and travel between the US and Canada.
^^ That would be nice. It's usually pretty easy crossing from the U.S. into Canada, but the reverse is often more stressful and anxious. And for no reason!!
Just returned from travelling in Europe for two weeks. Crossing the border between western European countries by train or plane is no problem with no customs or border security at all. Now maybe that's just because of the European Union. No reason we can be as civil crossing the border between Canada and the U.S.!
BTW...the only place we encountered mandatory masking was on public transportation in Italy. Required on all trains and even on the vaporettos [[aka water bus) in Venice. We chose to wear masks on regional and metro trains and anywhere we felt uncomfortable due to crowds as in some art museums and some streets in the cities we visited. None of it took away from the experience!
I agree with what DetBill said above. The app, and the public health travel measures behind it, were useful for doing what Canada needed to do at the height of the pandemic. And mny have been helpful in keeping Canada's per capita Covid case and death rate below that of the US and some other developed countries.
I used the app to cross the border several times, both during and after Canada's testing mandate. Like DetBill said, after the first time you entered your passport and vaccination card information into the app it was no big deal at all. You went in to the app and answered a couple of simple questions any time before you crossed the border and you were on your way. I never got slowed down or asked any additional questions because of it at the Customs booth when actually crossing the border.
Yes, it has probably outlived its usefulness now and on balance has become more of a hindrance than a help. So it's time for it to go. But that doesn't mean that it was pointless from the start or an overly draconian measure at the time it was instituted. Before USAians get on their high horse about this they should keep in mind that the U.S. still requires proof of Covid vaccination from Canadians [[and all other non-US residents) entering the US, and we retained our Covid testing requirement for entry several months longer than Canada did.
After 9-11 our border security became little to do with actual border security anybody that wants to do nefarious things can cross the border and get into this country bypassing security.
It’s become more about control and monitoring the flow of movement.
There is an international law that prevents the freedom of movement based off of the,show me your papers days,I would agree border security is necessary but they way it is currently set up 95% bear the burden of protecting us from the 5% that actually seek to do us harm.
I remember when we used to be able to go to the Bahamas,I had a house on Long Island in the Bahamas,all it took was a drivers license to enter,now it takes a passport,check in check out,$150 per person on the boat,per trip at customs and added hours,one little thing becomes questionable and you get to sit in a Bahamian jail,for as long as they decide,and take your boat.
When things become to much of a headache,people just avoid doing them,O think Detroit is kinda cool where you could flip across the border into another county and enjoy what it has to offer,like somebody else mentioned in Europe you can drive through many different countries with ease and experience many different cultures in the same day.
Thats the problem with our government playing the role of daddy,there is no happy medium and every time they give you something it comes at a cost or trade off.
The governments role was not set up that way.
Pretty much all the visible security measures are a joke. I could walk into a ballgame with a bomb strapped around my waist and a gun under my coat while the guy carefully checks my wife's tiny purse, mostly looking for cheetos. I've left keys, coins, cell phone, etc. in my pockets and nothing sets off the metal detectors. It's all about optics to make people feel safe. Real security measures are the ones that aren't seen.Quote:

^ actually they did try banning international travel at the onset,they were called racist and taken to court in order to stop the ban.

Out here in the wasteland known as Nevada, whenever I drive across the state line to California I have to stop and have my car thoroughly inspected by the California NKVD to make sure I don't bring any fruit across the state line.
