Lol I'm sorry but this is funny lol
What's funny is the people that are backing him without realizing the history of Oakland County's growth.
Perhaps the guy is just getting too old and senile. Perhaps be can't remember anything since his last glass of wine and painkiller cocktail so he forgot all the businesses he poached
Magnanimity, gentlemen. Magnanimity.
[[By "gentlemen," I'm referring to Patterson and Gilbert.)
lolol this is pretty funny. While I agree it would be great to get jobs to move here from other regions, it is still the best thing to get these major corporations back into our city center. Reverse the sprawl, continue Greater downtown's resurgence, and good things will happen city & region-wide.
I'm fine with him doing his damndest to keep employers in Oakland County. That's his job.
But instead of doing his bit he's got to lash out at Gilbert for doing a better job at it. Frickin' sour grapes. LBP poached companies to Oakland County and now turnabout's fair play.
And how come he isn't busting his pearly white ass getting people jobs from Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and wherever else he deems is ripe for the picking?
I didn't realize there were vineyards in Oakland County.
he'll probably be reelected again next time.
The shoe was on the other foot for the past 40 years.
Why does anyone care what he says?
What did you expect? A plea for regionalism? :)
Anyone who knocks L Brooks is seriously ignorant. All Wayne County and Detroit knows how to do is elect crooks who talk jive. Moving jobs from Oakland or Livingston or Macomb or Washtenaw to Detroit does nothing for SE Michigan. Zero sum. Period. SpartanDawg is obviously a Quicken employee. The "reverse the sprawl" narrative is too amateur to debate. We'll all be long dead before any sprawl "reverses." Furthermore, only northern Macomb, Clarkston, and Livingston County registered any population growth this past year, so sprawl hasn't slowed a bit. When you move business to Detroit you're just draining the pockets of average workers, in the form of Detroit city taxes, gas money, wear & tear. And you're preventing people from spending time with their kids, as they spend 90 minutes in a car each day. The only winners are Gilbert as he mugs for another camera and his golfing buddies in the c-suite. Stop acting like unpaid trollops for m/billionaires. Please.
I'll gladly take this one and say we should knock Patterson for his comments about Dan Gilbert. Why did he have to bring his name into the mix? He very well could've touted his own record, his accomplishments, and what Oakland County has to offer. There are some nice tidbits there. He doesn't need to be an ignorant sour grape chomping boob by pointing fingers at someone else's success.
So Detroit succeeds at attracting businesses now. Other cities do the same all across the nation. Obviously other communities are hurt when one leaves for another locale. Business happens. But rather than make snide remarks and drawing the imaginary line in the sand [[or in this case, Eight Mile)- I don't understand why Patterson doesn't Patterson go bring more business to Oakland County. It's really that simple.
It's amazing that none of them see the irony in their outcry...
Let the Mayor of White Detroit whine and cry! It's all about the tax breaks and regional competition. Detroit is where the action is. The suburbs is just getting to boring and quiet for the Millennial Generation.
Oakland County is growing jobs, and obviously is eating Detroit's lunch. The subsidized job increases downtown are a tiny fraction of regional job gains, and irrelevent in the big picture.
Patterson is complaining about taxpayer subsidized job transfers, where suburbanies are taxed to force companies to move downtown in a game of regional musical chairs. No net economic growth, and increased costs for families and businesses.
Yeah, sure.
He's obviously worried about this trend or he wouldn't have bothered to mention it. He specifically complained that Detroit is poaching from the suburbs, and not neighboring states. That raises the legitimate question of why Oakland County doesn't/hasn't done the same thing.
Then why did Kmart leave when it bought Sears?
Why has it taken a dozen years for someone to touch the property along Telegraph N of Square Lake?
Why did Delphi up and leave for Europe?
Why was Fountain Walk such a colossal failure?
Bottom line we are all in this boat and being impacted by decisions out of our control and Oakland County is not the powerhouse it was prior to the recession.
A republican should understand that capitalism is based on a free market and that the market changes.
