Police arrested the son of City Council President Pro-Tem JoAnn Watson Thursday afternoon.

The council woman's 39-year-old son was taken into custody at her house of the west side of the city. He is accused of assaulting his girlfriend.

Police say the girlfriend was injured enough to go to the hospital.

There is no word yet whether Watson's son will face charges.

"Control your house and you'll know how to treat women better!"

Clearly this is the fault of the racist media lynch mob.

No, it's the fault of L. Brooks and his suburbanite raiders.

I would back off of this. As long as the black eyes didn't cost us taxpayers anything, and as long as he's treated by the judge as any other citizen would be, I'd just let it go. (After all, I grew up in a family where we gave each other the occasional shiner.)

She was hospitalized.

I reject the reasoning that "giving each other the occasional shiner" is normal and acceptable, just because you put up with it. That kind of thinking allows the perpetuation of the barbaric notion that is fine to injure people in your own family.

Just because you would let it go doesn't mean other people can't have an opinion.

Oh, I know, Jcole. To use a shopworn phrase, "I'm just sayin' ..."

Pretty much, I think we're all 'just sayin'...'
It's not going to make a difference to him or his mother what we say.

Is he 39 years old and still living at home?

Haikoont,
You beat me to it ...not only living at Mom's house, but at 39, he's at home at 3, 4 p.m. on what is a work day for most of us...sounds like what my dad used to say, disapprovingly, of one of my boyfriends, "his time seems to be his own." Translated = no job.

Now wait a second, people. We don't know that he lives there. We don't know if he might be on vacation or perhaps even working a different time shift.

What we do know is the best thing that can happen is for him to be charged and Mother Watson stays out of it. You don't hit people. He obviously hasn't yet learned this.

I don't know if he will learn this at his age. He'll probably get anger management and a slap on the wrist.
Heck, he didn't kill her or anything.
Of course, next time who knows...?
I'm sure this won't be the last we hear of him.

They let him out of jail. His wife must be scared to death.

From the article: "Magistrate Steven Lockhart entered a not guilty plea for Damon Watson and set a $2,000 bond but included a provision that would let Watson out of lockup if he paid 10 percent of the bond.

Lockhart also ordered Watson to participate in a domestic violence intervention class and to stay away from his wife, even if it meant living elsewhere while the court proceedings unfold."
