I would like to start this EV thread. What are the newest trends ? How cheap can we find vehicles ? Any and all replies would be appreciated.

I'm trying to post the low res stuff.

Not highly viable with a lot of hidden downsides like battery lifespan, weight, toxicity (not very green) of the dead batteries, flammability/heat generation, poor performance in temperature extremes, and the electricity to recharge the batteries (batteries only store energy) must come from somewhere...burning fuel for the most part (coal, oil, nuclear, and a miniscule amount from wind).

Geeze - Cc, you're writing the rebuttle while I'm still composing.

This isn't electric but it is only 50cc powered.

Try a scooter, a skateboard, a horse...this is the direction Obama and the Greens wants us to go in.

Going way off "topic" and most assuredly not electric but someday I will find a way to get one here:

The Madass is awesome.

Personally I have a Ruckus. Or I should say my wife has one, she won it off Fox 2's web contest. I guess out west Ruckuses are ..... hot stuff with kids to customize and "gang ride".

You likely have seen the Kikker Hard Knock kit. That may be one of my projects of the future.

I've been a 50 cc "Monkey Bike" fanantic for years. They have at us in Europe and they're trends. Go Limey's.

Less toxic than Lead, but....like saying a shower is less wet than a bath.

This the only EV I've ever owned. Four in line motorcycle batteries for a total of 48 volts. Dual disc brakes, two wheel drive, storage in the "tank" and would do about 30 mph, flat out. The only sound you would hear was the woosh of the knobby's. Too bad I had to sell it after a layoff.

Like I said...least harmful...still harmful (as in least wet).

Read it again, the toxic materials are biproducts of all lithium containing batteries.

Another factor is the short lifespan such that the amount of toxic material over time is greater and accumulates like compounded interest.

ccbatson

What Lithium batteries are not Lithium Ion batteries? New Lithium polymer batteries are still Lithium ion in mechanism of action. BTW, besides toxicity, they overheat and occasionally are known to burst into flames.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/ion

Isn't it a moot point if 'none" of the "non ion" batteries are used in electric vehicles.

Then you go on to explain the safeguards needed to lessen the issues regarding heat.

And then you go on to site, as a primary reference, Wikimedia...a big no no. With its' biased and selective information.

Batteries STORE energy, they do not create it. In doing so, they add weight, have a limited lifespan, are toxic on some level (all of them) to the extent that they must be disposed of as toxic, cost more, and save nothing compared to small low performance internal combustion engines of comparable performance to the electric counterparts (as can be found all over Europe).
