The flexed arm of a mechanical shovel sits idle while the future of the partially demolished Packard Plant is determined in court.

2002 DEMOLITION BEGINS

Packard Motors

In 1999  the City of Detroit began demolition of the Packard Plant. Several hundred thousand square feet of buildings on the northwest side were demolished before the city was enjoined from further destruction.  A court of law found that the current lease holders had not been properly informed by the city of the tax default claim that the city was using to undertake the demolition.

The situation is being decided in court, but there seems that there is little doubt that the entire complex will eventually be razed.
