Ford
Piquette Plant
In
a era of vanishing history in Detroit, it is a joy to discover
a serious effort to preserve the birthplace of the Ford Model
T.
On
Sunday September 27, 1998, through the good graces of the Henry
Ford Heritage Association, I was able to tour the interior
of the Piquette Avenue Plant from which exactly 90 years
ago the Ford Model T was issued forth.
The
tour featured a slide lecture by Professor Trent Boggess of
Plymouth State College and marked the official launch of efforts
to save this incomprehensibly significant site by the recently
formed Piquette Plant Preservation Project,
an outgrowth of the Henry Ford Heritage Association.
Come
and join me as I take you on a virtual tour to the womb of the
American auto industry.
